Description The Red Dragonfly of Nikko

I had a great time photographing insects in the Botanical Gardens of Nikko Japan. The dragonflies kept landing on me and inviting me to watch them.

These dragonflies seem to have no fear of people. They landed on my hands

I am going guess it is because the people there are really friendly

I know insects have emotions. I've experienced it by watching their reactions to situations.

First the butterlies land on you and then the dragonflies? The insects at Nikko loved you. But what a great shot of this dragonfly...you caught it in a good pose. I like how its transparent wings were caught on camera. Very nice.

This is slightly-off subject, but it's funny how insects such as butterlies & dragonflies (and ever lady bugs) are adored by people...but sometimes I imagine if they didn't have their wings (and the ladybug without its spots), would they still be adored? I admit, they would look a little freaky.

I like bugs. I see them as little animals. In addition, I am very convinced they have feelings.
There is a cartoon show which teaches kids and adults how to appreciate bugs. [link] Growing Up Creepie

Wow, that's incredible! How did you manage to get a picture that close up! I am curious as to what kind of zoom you have on your camera.

Japanese dragonflies are people friendly. They kept landing me. All I had to do was put my finger out and they'd land on it. They'd land on my head. They'd land on my shoulder. I even took them along when I'd walk.

Man, it looks nothing like the red dragoon fly here in southern CA.

absolutely beautiful!!!

I remember as a child I learned a Japanese song called "Scarlet Dragonfly"

All I can remember is the first line --

I recall a scarlet dragonfly
in the sunset's glow....

wish I could remember the rest of the words. the tune is very lilting and decidedly Japanese.
