Warrior Mom and DaughterI sculpted this piece from paper clay. My aim was to represent working mothers who have children. During the day, working mom battles the people in the corporation. Here, she is reading "The Art of War" to her daughter. During the night, she reads and educates her young. I took her out of the kiln this morning (4/11/11).

My ceramics teacher is a master of the art. She is from Hungary and is completely open to trying new approaches and using mixed media. It's a class with only 4 people in it. So, I get lots of individual attention. Most of the learning, though, is on my own, using trial and error.

Yes. I am planning on painting all of them. First, they have to fire in the kiln. Next, they are glazed with color and then fired again to melt the glaze onto the sculpture.

This looks fantastic! I really admire the details from the headboard on the bed to the design of the clothing and hair. This must have taken some time to finish! Even though you are presenting modern ideas about women, the look of this makes me think more of ancient cultures.
