Simon uses the bow in the book?

Yes. Alec is also an archer in the book. Simon uses Alec's bow to pull off a rescue and surprises everybody,  because nobody expected the mundane boy to have taken archery lessons.

All the other drawings of Simon are with him without glasses but of course he only has glasses in one book...Why?! You make him look so sexy with glasses! T^T

Because variety is the spice of life, I guess. (Though I guess, for Simon, that would be blood, but I digress...)

Thanks. Perspective in general is always tricky for me, so it's really nice to see someone who likes the way it turned out. ^_^

Yay, fellow Simon fan ^^

I just started City of Bones, so I'm really not sure what to think of Isabelle, but Simon's been pretty good so far. I think you did a really good job drawing them both, everything seems to be in proportion and their expressions are good too (though I can't imagine what Isabelle's sad over :/ )

Oh, Isabelle's just being a bit morose in general, nothing specific. Thanks for dropping by. It's good to hear from a fellow Simon fan. ^_^

You're welcome, so far he and Clary are the only characters I truly like in the book as of yet (hate the Shadowhunters, though I'm begining to warm up to Isabelle since she doesn't seem to be racist and appalingly arrogant...or at least not by comparison).

I found myself warming up to Jace pretty quickly, actually. I found him to be rude and opinionated, but in rather endearing ways once I got the knack of him.

Really? About which point in the book did you start liking him? I'm just wondering since I'm still kind of early...ish, in the book, so...

I guess his flaws are just a bit more personal to me. I literally can't stand arrogance and the fact that he's racist and views humanity as useless and practically not worth protecting kind of puts a dent in him being a hero or sympathetic in my mind :/

Am I just being a spoiled jerk? I mean, I get that his father was basically evil (from his point of view, it seems) and died, but I'm having a hard time seeing how that gives him a license to act like that, especially after all that training with Hodge...who I'm guessing is actually as arrogant as the rest of the Shadowhunters, but he's just less obvious about it? :/

I can't name an exact time, but I started noting it when he said something about having no need to be modest because he was handsome. I laughed because it was such an arrogant thing to say, but also because it made me realize that Jace is painfully honest. He's not afraid to say what's going on as he sees it, even if the way he sees things is rather skewed. It strikes me as something that Clary really needs since she's in a world that's alien to her. She needs somebody who's going to tell her what's really on people's minds (including prejudices and unpleasant politics) straight up with no candy-coating.

Also, Jace's racism is something he has to lose over time. Aside from Alec and Isabel, he tends to hang around people who are skeevy in general, so he hasn't seen good examples of the downworlders yet. But he really isn't that prejudiced by comparison. He interacts with downworlders and does try to get to know them which is a far more open mindset than that of most nephilim. I'm a little wary of Isabel's mindset, actually, because she uses socializing with downworlders as a kind of rebellion against her parents. We never know how much of her attempts to date vampires and fairy folk is actually genuine or how much it's just a temporary thrill.

I see...well, it kind of slipped my mind that him being "honest" (I'm skpetical since he himself still strikes me as very biased) would help Clary orient herself a bit, but I still find his arrogance and the way he seems to go out of his way to instult Simon (or anyone who isn't fortunate enough to be blessed with being half angel or demon...or is a girl he wants to impress)to be unbearable, but that could just be me since I actually know someone like that >.<;

Well that's nice, but all of what you said only applies to the downworlders he is perfectly happy to flirt with, not the "inferior humans"...does...let me guess: by the end of the book/series, none of the characters will actually remain "normal" humans, will they?

Jace's bias *is* a big flaw and will have some negative impact on Clary, but it's part of how he'll grow and change and if he were perfect, he'd just be boring anyway. Jace does give Simon a hard time. Simon is his romantic rival and the fact that the geek isn't in on the world of the nephilim makes Simon seem ignorant to Jace. Jace also places a lot of a person's worth on how well they can fight... as far as he knows, Simon's useless. (Oh, but little does he know...hehe) It seems strange to find myself almost defending Jace's reactions to people, especially since I love Simon more, but one of the things I love about the series is that I can get a feel for where everyone is coming from. Even if they were on the opposite ends of an argument like Jace and Simon.

As for no normal humans... that would be dealing out spoilers. And I don't know if I wanna do that... especially since the info regarding Simon gets so juicy.

Well, you're right about the "perfect thing", and I guess I'm just upset because so far Jace is basically the embodiment of everything I despise in people, which is probably why I can't empathise or feel the slightest bit of pity for him at all. I'm guessing the "placing worth on how well people can fight" either bits him in the rear or just gets dropped when it comes to Valentine? (they made it clear he'll be the villain and he's obviously very, very good at fighting, not to mention he regards humans with only slightly less contempt than Jace since he sees them as potentially useful tools...albeit ones to just be turned into half-angels). Well..I'ms orry if I sounds like I'm ranting, I just...agh...sorry

I see...that...doesn't fill me with confidence for some reason. So far one of the reasons I like Simon so much is because he's human and doesn't need the super-special awesomeness of angel or demon blood to make him a hero. I know I'm probably sounding racist or something, but I'm just tired of my own race pretty much getting the inferiority shaft in every single book i pick up these days :/

Different strokes, I guess.

But I wouldn't worry about Simon. The cool thing is that he proves useful to the group *as* a human before things start going supernaturally haywire. He doesn't get tangled with that stuff for quite a while and when he does, it doesn't really change who he is. It's just one more thing for him to deal with.

Oh, really? Well that's great, I think!
