As lovely as this is, I don't recommend it. I know your kitty is a sweetie and wont attack your birds (Mines the same!) but cat saliva has bacteria that can easily kill birds. And since they wash their fur regularly, just having a kitty's fur touch a parrot can kill them. Be careful! If you love your birds, I don't see why you would take such a risk.

The bird store I used to get my birds from had her cats with her birds so I never new this until more recently. I have always had my birds and cats around each other. I also hadn't read anything about it in the books I read But about a year ago I heard this.

Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. It's something that can be very unexpected, something that can happen very suddenly after years of bird-cat contact. All it takes is cat bacteria to get inside a bird's mouth, which can easily happen since both animals clean themselves by licking their body. And the fact this picture shows a cat's muzzle so incredibly close to a bird (a chick, even worse) is pretty scary.
I quote from an off-site source:
"Birds mouths are much cleaner than ours. And, ours are much cleaner than say a cat's. When it comes to birds, the most dangerous organism in any mammal's mouth is something called Pasteurella multocida. Once introduced onto or into a bird, Pasteurella multocida can become a "very infectious organism," says Speer, crossing membranes, entering the blood stream, and taking a bird from perfect health to death in as little as one hour. "
And also:
"Allowing a bird to preen a "mellow cat" is also dangerous. When a cat licks itself, the bacteria particles are left over from its saliva stick to the fur and the bird can become infected"
I understand the cutesy appeal of birdy-kitty friends, but it's not worth the consequences. Don't let your stubbornness kill your birds.

you must not have read my comment where I said I just learned this about a year ago. I had never heard that before. I hadn't read it in any of the books or magazines I had read. Nor did the owner of the bird store that I worked at mention this. As the bird store had bird cat contact as a regular thing. Since I learned this my cat and birds do not visit each other. But in the past they did and I can't not change the past.

Yes, but this picture was submitted... last month. ._. And says (c) 2011. Which sort of raises questions. Anyways, I'm glad if made the change, worth it for sure.
Be aware I'm not trying to attack you or anything. I'm just an avid bird lover, so I always get a bit upset at how many pictures and videos around the internet like this... Too much ignorance in the world.

I just uploaded these pictures to dA. I have only had an account here since May of 2011. All my images I am just now going through and cleaning out my hard drive. Editing my pictures and sorting them. So these are older pictures. I don't have any Cockatiels anymore. I used to breed them but no longer do any breeding of birds. When I worked at the bird store I used to help rehome the unloved birds. I get so upset when people buy birds because they think they are pretty and they don't do their homework. There are so many birds always being given away or miss treated. I have spent a lot of time trying to help people find good homes for their birds or rescuing birds that need new homes. I love birds very much and I was surprised when I heard the information about cats and birds a year ago because in all my reading up until then I hadn't seen it. I also had worked at the bird store and never heard it. I am very thankful my birds are all healthy and never have been sick. I take them to the vet and make sure they are doing well. I have lost one bird and she is the Peach Front but it was do to a genetic liver failure the vet said.

not a problem
right now I have a rescue African Grey who I have had for about 8 years. She fell in love with me and picked me so she is my forever love. We have a green cheek counure that fell in love with my husband and 4 parakeets. I don't have as many birds as I have in the past. But then I also didn't expect to have a new baby in my life.
