I'm not sure what else to say here, it's pretty self explanatory. Celestia's farewell speech to her people upon her retirement from the throne. People have asked me, "Why is Twilight still single" and I say "Because she's too bust being princess," then they say, "Well what does princess Twilight do?" This, this is what she does. Celestia sold her immortality ages ago in return for a thousand years of peace. Ever since Luna's return Celestia has been slowly growing weaker and older. This is why she hasn't been very active in fighting evil or solving problems since the show began. She groomed Twilight to be her successor and when she dies it will fall on Twilight to raise the sun. And no Twilight is not immortal but the royal family is healthy and strong with Cadence's children and grandchildren. After Celestia passes away her title will continue to be passed down through future generations of the family. Luna on the other hand is still imoratal and will remain the princess of the night for some time to come and an adviser to future generations.Β www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUX6H4β¦Related content

It is an admirable to willingly sacrifice herself for her people. Perhaps this is what happens to both Luna and Celestia in the end, not so much as tired with the world they watched, guarded and guided, to let it be lead by new minds. Maybe they want peace to rest, or abdicate their thrones and retire, enjoy the world away from their duties, as so many years as rulers would certainly take a toll upon their mental well-being, their health and souls.
One of the greater problems with a long lasting peace is the risk of stagnation. A kingdom without problems beyond the usual; famine, weather, expansion- is that war and conflict always brings new ideas, theological, technological advancement.
To watch the world slip through your fingers as immortal is a sad prospect, but a sadder course is someone who has lived well beyond mortal means drawing closer to their end. An end that is dignified and peaceful, not degrading into a feeble state, at least, that would be my desire if I lived for an innumerable amount of time and knew my end was soon.

I feel like the whole, "let's just have Discord make people immortal" thing is a pretty cheap and childish story device, like "death is sad and we don't like sad things so lets just make every person we like immortal" never mind that once you do it to one character you have to do it to all of them, and all their kids and their grandkids and so on until the entire planet is over run with an ever increasing population of immortal ponies, that or have an ever growing elite class that gets to be immortal while all the common people still have to deal with death. Also it drains so much emotional depth from the story when no one can die. There's nothing in the show that even says Discord can do this, nothing says he can't persay but we know his powers have some kind of limit cause Tirek can drain them, assuming Discord is immortal wouldn't making someone else immortal involve giving them some of his own limited magic? what's to say he wouldn't just be trading away his own immortality to someone else?

First off, this is a nice story. Second, I know you said twilight isn't immortal, but does that include cadence as well? I ask because while you mentioned her children, you didn't necessarily mention her lifeslifespan (also I can't tell if cadence has wrinkles to show her age or if those lines are because of how sad she is).

Stories will be passed down from parent to children so long as you keep those you cherish in your heart. Celestia left a legacy that will never be forgotten. She will be missed dearly by her peers. It was part of a sort of head cannon I've developed that explains why Celestia has been kind of weak since the show started and had to rely on Twilight. I have a whole story behind Harmonia too.
