Description Meet Rodrick. He was due January 5th but born on December 13th due to complications. I had a perfectly normal healthy pregnancy up until the 12 when I suddenly developed severe preeclampsia www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-co… and had to be induced. My water broke the next morning, I was dilated in 4 hours and in another 3 there he was. For those who don't know much about labor 4 hours in incredibly fast especially for a first time mom. One of the nurses mentioned that my high blood pressure may have been responsible for my labor progressing so quickly. I had planned to do a water birth but none of my plans panned out due to my condition. I ended up needing an epidural because my contractions were so intense and close together and my blood pressure kept spiking dangerously high, it was safer to get the epidural so that we could more easily manage my blood pressure. Without it I may have has a seizure during labor which would have required an emergency c-section and could have hurt the baby.

After he was born I was put on a magnesium sulfate drip which is standard treatment for preeclampsia. Unfortunately they gave me a standard doesage but due to my small size it was to strong for me. It made me so weak and ill I couldn't even hold my baby. In the recovery room Jesse laid him in my bed with me for a bit, but after a few hours and some failed attempts to nurse him his blood sugar started dropping and he had to go to the nicu (neonatal intensive care unit) for the next 2 days I couldn't go see him because I was too sick. After 12 hours on the first mag drip my vision started to blur and I became delirious, they checked my blood and found the mag levels were too high and took my off it, only for me to have a grand mal seizure shortly after. I don't remember the seizure and at all, just what happened right before and after (incidentally I bit the fuck out of my tongue and sliced it up in multiple places)

So after that I went back on the mag but at a lower dose and this time for another 24 hours. All in all we spent a full week in the hospital and I'm still recovering. My vision is still messed up and will probably take a few weeks and I've been having mag withdrawal which includes sweating, cold shakes, muscle pains ans spasms, migraines, panic attacks, lots of fun stuff. So yeah I had planned for like a normal healthy natural birth, instead I got sick and so many things went wrong. Also turns out Rick and I have incompatible blood types which made his jaundice worse, jaundice is normal in newborns especially preemies but he had a pretty bad case and as stated earlier struggled to nurse at first. He was born a pretty good size though 6lbs 11oz which would be normal for a full term baby, had he been born at the due date he probably would have been a pretty big baby. Honestly Rick's been pretty healthy for the most part, he did need some extra care but he mostly just had a few minor problems. I'm the one who was in real bad shape to be honest.

But hey, I'm home now, I'm getting better, and I made a baby, so that's cool. If anyone wants to help support me and my family you can always go pledge on my patreon www.patreon.com/InkPuppyComics every little bit helps right now, we just moved into a new apartment on top of it all and Jesse took that week of work through unpaid emergency medical leave so he missed a week of pay so that's a decent chunk of change we're missing out on this month. I'll be sure to give out some treats to any new patrons, including buttons and home made beanie babies for some higher pledge tiers.

Congratulations

I'm so sorry the birth and direct aftermath didn't go quite so smoothly... But all that matters is that you and the baby are doing good now, to which I'm very happy for

Welcome to the world, Rodrick!

Wow thats a mouthful lol

Glad you and the baby is doing ok jaudice can be easily cured by just standing out in the sun so that wont be a problem and at least y'all survived the experience.

Congrats on the baby though and Rodrick is fitting name considering your name is Alex (short for Alexandria, a feminine form of Alexander the most notable Alexander being Alexander the Great).

Can't wait to see how this kid grows up.
