Description This animation was part of my final major project in my first year of animation university. The project was to animate a cartoon character doing several traits and walks. This was the first character animation I ever did in this type of detail, so be kind.

The coloured illustration of the character can be found here. [link]

Did you use a peg board for this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Kairace [2006-12-04 01:33:26 +0000 UTC]

I used a pegbar, yeh. Makes sure the pictures stay where I want them too, and doesnt let my animation jump all over the page. they are cheap, its the pegbar hole punch thats expensive.

Kairace In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-04 17:40:33 +0000 UTC]

How much all together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Kairace [2006-12-04 19:59:07 +0000 UTC]

The pegbar is cheap, £3-£5 for a plastic one. A pegbar hole punch is about £500-£1000 or something crazy like that. Best thing to do if you wanna make one at home is get a ruler and glue two raised bits that is the same width of a normal hole punch. the camera operating system and software can cost around £500.
check out this website if you want. Its like an animation art shop. [link]

Did you win?

AngelCrusher In reply to lainchan [2006-12-03 00:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Its funny, pointing out all the flaws once you do animation for a while. Its kinda annoying too. I would say I won the award, just so you can worship as some sort of god, but won with his shiney CG-ness. I was the only 2D person nominated, but a CG company judged it and I think its a conspiracy. lol

I don't think I'd have the patience to draw each frame.

AngelCrusher In reply to Roxx-1 [2006-12-01 23:33:39 +0000 UTC]

thanks alot.
Its not bad. Just think, how would you prefer spending school/college/uni time, isndie boring lectures, writing essays, or drawing all day and then seeing your character animated.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Roxx-1 In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-07 17:33:26 +0000 UTC]

you're welcome.
Hehe, definitely drawing all day! I hate writing essays with a passion...even though the teachers like them for some odd reason.

Keep up the nice work.

Thanks man. I received a Pass with Distinction for my character work and was nominated for most promising first year animator. Only 4 people were chosen, and I was the only 2d traditional animator out of the bunch, so that was cool.

hey, man this aint bad compared to yur last ones
this one's incredibly smooth
bout how many frames?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to wheaman [2006-12-01 00:09:39 +0000 UTC]

cheers dude, the next ones get better than this though. As for frames, man, we're going back some for this lol The drawings on the video say 53, nearly 7 seconds long, so that would be about 175 frames including all holds, we shoot on 2s anyway, but yeh, some holds pan it out, as does reusing drawings like for the blink maybe.

wheaman In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-01 00:14:53 +0000 UTC]

looks good man. Vary the spacing on the fall, looks to even. He should be accelerating and getting faster with the drop. Also when he hits the floor, to really push it, do a frame before the pose that is squashed slightly, as in lower his height, expand his width. The drawing will look weird, but when put together it will give the impression of great impact. Something to think about and try.

wheaman In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-12-01 00:48:03 +0000 UTC]

thanks a lot, man. Ill overhaul that scene a lot

got any tips for mouth motion i keep f*cking that up

AngelCrusher In reply to wheaman [2006-12-01 01:04:48 +0000 UTC]

as in lip sync? best thing is to find tutorials if you dont know how to do it. Best to always break down sound before animating so you know when the lips should hit at what frame. Just google or search on dA lip sync and you should find a load of lips that match the sound of each letter thing.

Nice job, I remember seeing this when nosing around the submission folder, good job and don't worry about anything you consider a flaw, we've all been there and I could have certainly done better if I'd tried harder from the start, how did you submit this one? If in Flash what settings did you use? If not then what sort of file is it? I'm up for submitting some of my line tests but past attempts have only looked really pixelated and unclear.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelCrusher In reply to Tetsubo [2006-11-30 23:10:54 +0000 UTC]

yeh its flash. Just went import video and chose the final selection which said something about swf but reduces sound quality. I then changed the canvas size to 320x256 and set the frames per second to 25.

*sigh* at the new IE not letting me see animations, videos, chatrooms and all the other cool things

AngelCrusher In reply to Mooseh [2006-11-30 18:57:57 +0000 UTC]

Grr. Does the settings say allow animations? If it does, just downlaod firefox. Thats what I did when IE was being a tool. I use it all the time now.

Mooseh In reply to AngelCrusher [2006-11-30 21:04:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I would already have firefox, but I still cant afford my own computer and my old man refuses to have it on here. He seems to see it as some sort of hole in our security

AngelCrusher In reply to Mooseh [2006-11-30 23:11:47 +0000 UTC]

i find firefox more secure than IE, and I was very iffy about downloading new stuff, so know where he is coming from.
