Description In the morning of April 26, 1986, the reactor number 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, exploded and scattered 200 tons of radioactive material, with a radioactivity equivalent to 500 atomic bombs.
The radiation scattered in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
The radiation cloud reached several European countries as well.
Between 1988 and 1994, 125,000 people died from radioactive fallout and over 400,000 were still in treatment.
The nuclear explosion increased the number of cases of thyroid cancer in children by 200%.
The total count of sick and homeless people were reached seven million!
Ukraine recognized that some 2,600 kilometres around Chernobyl will not be able to support human life. The reason is that the radioactive isotopes half-life is 24,000 years, and due to cesium and strontium levels the people have to wait at least 300 years before able to come back.
Actually there are more than 200,000 square kilometres of contaminated land.

It is estimated that between 300,000 and 600,000 "cleaners", worked on cleaning the affected area and in the construction of the concrete sarcophagus covering the remains of the nuclear plant.
This sarcophagus has deteriorated, and now it has a crack of over 100 meters long.
Ukraine raised 550 million euros to build a new sarcophagus and implement various programs of deactivation.
We are currently working on the construction of a second sarcophagus.
The new sarcophagus, covering the current steel and concrete one, will be a cube with a length of 257 meters, a width of 150 and a height of 108 meters.

It is estimated that any construction made by man, not to overcome a life span of 1000 years.
The disaster at the Chernobyl nuclear plant, will pollute the planet for more than 24,000 years.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks I glad you like your picture.

As for the data, I fear that if you read any article on this subject, by GREENPEACE for example, the data are even more frightening.

Felicidades, me gusta.

Epar3D In reply to angelitoon [2012-06-11 14:31:02 +0000 UTC]

angelitoon In reply to Epar3D [2012-06-11 15:41:05 +0000 UTC]

Ya te entiendo, no te preocupes. No problem!!

Me da igual...

Those OMG numbers of casualties of course incorrect.

Twenty-eight emergency workers ("liquidators") died from acute radiation syndrome including beta burns and 15 patients died from thyroid cancer in the following years. Report predicts 4000 death due to cancer, but thats only controversial expectations so far and not a clear fact. [link]

angelitoon In reply to LoginTrap [2012-06-10 11:52:02 +0000 UTC]

As in all such things, everything depends on the source you look at it.
of course. I have not invented these numbers.
Are drawn from various studies that have been created by trusted sources.
It is true that the figures are always a weapon to carry data, to one extreme or another.
Of course, your report does not coincide with the (numerous) reports, as I can read.
There are reports created by the government on occasion, which are called into question after, when the weather puts the cards on the table.
I could also put, a few links of studies created by medical sources, political, journalistic and scientific, of which I get this information.
It always depends on who makes these reports.
And that's a debate, I do not feel like getting out of respect for the victims.
It all depends where you want to put the tragedy ....

I am glad and grateful to share your information.
I think it is a very serious issue and we must try to be transparent.

LoginTrap In reply to angelitoon [2012-06-10 11:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Source that I provided not even Russian, not to mention that non governmental.

angelitoon In reply to LoginTrap [2012-06-10 12:18:09 +0000 UTC]

Indeed, one of the sources you have mentioned (wikipedia), speaks precisely of the differences in data, which has been, over the fatal disaster at Chernobyl.
Interestingly, more than one, contrary to what you have said.
No doubt, I think if someone is really interested in learning more about the consequences, should read, the information and draw their own conclusions.

angelitoon In reply to LoginTrap [2012-06-10 12:02:48 +0000 UTC]

However, some of the sources that I have set, sparked by Russia itself, and even government sources, which have admitted many things, after having denied before.
I'm afraid there is always a numbers game, driven by interests of one side or another.

Do not worry about time puts everything in place.
And the people is greater, for details, and draw your own conclusions.
