2024 AusWB Futurity Championships

I am really unhappy with my handler here and I'll probably be posting a redone version later!

Horses Reference: AM King's Triumph

Futurity Ticket: Ticket here!

Handler: Allison Hartley

Handler Age: 25

Class Entering: Agility

Allie was so proud of this colt as he rested his head against her shoulder. They were standing outside the agility ring waiting for their turn in the ring. She was excited about this part! Halter class had gone well despite a certain family of Wallaby’s hopping into the ring with them. Chubb’s was not sure what to think about the wild life around here. After halter, they had been relaxing and getting Chubb’s some breakfast near the trailer when a Red Bellied Black Snake slithered out into the early morning sun. Chubs had nearly launched himself to the moon off of all fours when he saw it, giving Allie a heart attack as she rushed to figure out what was the matter.

She was sure he was eagerly waiting to go back to the USA’s bugs and fauna, Australia may just be a little too wild for the poor colt. It was their turn and as they entered the ring and the young colt was excited looking at all the obstacles, he pawed the ground when they took a small pause for Allie to run through the obstacles in her mind. First up was the cross pole jump! She took Chubbs towards it, he trotted happily beside her, crossing over the poles excitedly. Allie could already tell that he was going to be one of those horses you need to calm down before every jump, or he would take you to the moon instead of the other side of the rail.

They weaved through the pattern of cones and came to the Reversing poles. Chubbs put his nose down to the ground to investigate what they were. She leads him through the poles and then step by step pushed him back. Chubbs carefully assorted his long legs and looked behind himself as the back of his hoof tapped up against one of the poles. His warm brown eyes looking back to Allie for reassurance as he turned on his hind end to back up out of the obstacle. Cleared with little clumsiness involved!

For the next few obstacles such as the Tarp, farm gate, and Horse ball, Allie was happy Chubbs was such a curious sweetheart, it took little encouragement for him to interact with the obstacle, and only one small debacle occurred as he mounted the ball to play with it and nearly tipped over and fell. But in the last moments, he thankfully got his hooves beneath himself and proceeded to wack the ball with his front hoof in retaliation to its “assault”. All that was left now was the Hoop, which once again Chubbs eagerly found his way through, nodding his head enthusiastically as he got his body on the other end of it.

Last but not least was a small bridge for Chubbs to climb up and over. Unfortunately for the pair, the Australian wildlife had seemingly taken over the obstacle as their stronghold to reside in during the event in this ring Allie was thankful for Chubb’s patience as he tried to barter with the Cockatoo for his own safe passage over the obstacle as a Slumbering Wombat avoided the heat of the day underneath, completely unfazed by the clunking of hooves over the bridge. Eventually the Cockatoo stopped protesting Chubb’s VERY rude intrusion of his newly claimed property and the colt was able to climb up and over the bridge, looking back at it to find the Cockatoo scurrying back to reclaim his property.

It was an eventful day for the two! Allie was happy to mingle with the other trainers as they all showed off their Young stock. She was honestly shocked by how pretty the two-year-olds were despite their still growing frames, this was going to be an excellent futurity for the AUSWB group.

As the day wrapped up for a close, Allie felt a sense of pain and anxiety about returning home. How could she be sad after a day like today? But the feeling persisted on as she packed their trailer to depart back to their rented stall. Something was off, she just couldn’t put her thumb on it quite yet.
