Description “The Girl in the Fireplace” is one of my favorite episodes of Doctor Who. The acting is fabulous and there are so many stunning gowns to look at. I picked the first gown the Doctor sees the grown Madame de Pompadour (Reinette) wear.

I looked for ages for the perfect fabric but I wasn’t very lucky, even on the internet. I settled for a tan and teal fabric from JoAnn Fabrics. Let’s hear it for coupons saving me lots of money!

The pattern from the gown and the pocket hoops are from J.P. Ryan. The corset and chemise are from Simplicity 3635. What are fabulous about Ryan’s patterns are the functioning pockets. I was able to carry quite a few things around in my pocket hoops! I highly recommend making a padded petticoat from quilted cotton, as suggested by Ryan. You don’t have unsightly pocket hoop lines and you achieve a beautiful shape.

The bows are styled from tan lining fabric that was finished with pinking sheers and thick teal ribbon that has smaller cream ribbons glued on for the lines. The necklace is fashioned from lace, ribbon, and several types of beads. I was so distraught that I forgot to wear my jewelry for my first photo shoot. I was so excited about finally getting into the gown that I completely forgot!

Photographer: LJinto

Leonard totally knew where to find this fabulous setting for photos. The stone work is matching the colors so well it's blowing my mind!

Amazing dress... and where is the place, excactly? Is it an old monastery?

(The modern buildings in the background are off; but the rest is okay.

With them manip's away it would have been utter brilliance!)

This is actually in Atlanta where Dragon*Con is held. There is a tiny little structure on a busy street that we walked over to.

Then it's most probably one of the oldest Buildings in Atlanta, Georgia, yes?

AngelSamui In reply to RavaT [2011-09-23 23:35:16 +0000 UTC]

lol Probably! But it's not even a whole building. Just a tiny little... thing.

Tiny? Looks tall to me in that shot, at least 2 stories high, or not?

Does it have a name so that I can look up other shots of that thingy?

Proper underthings ALWAYS make the outfit pop! (says the former theatrical/historical costumer).

I so want more pictures.

(I loved the images of that ep too, but I'm not as ambitious as you, I just want to make a doll based on it!)

That's amazing. I'm going to dragoncon for the first time this year, and I'm petrified that any costume I come up with isn't going to be up to snuff! I'm debating just beating out the drums and seeing who gets it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AngelSamui In reply to magpiesmiscellany [2011-06-16 02:01:54 +0000 UTC]

lol There will be plenty of Who fans who get your drumming.

And there are all levels of costuming at the con. Be sure to just have fun!

Cool. Besides the history costumes for my dolls my friend was hoping for our whole group to go steampunk but it isn't going well thus far. But I guess as long as everyone is playing it's all fun I've only been to one other proper con, so I'm a bit nervous.
