I love the ambience of this piece... it reminds me of a curiousity shop, or an abandoned toy shop (even if it's lamps).

I love old antique shops...this was inspired by some old sewing mannequins in our spare room!

Ever hear of a band called Malice in Leatherland? They have a song called "A Happy Death Now." Reminded me of this.

Beautiful sketch work with all of the details. I love how the eyes pop out at you most of all. Great sepia tone, as well.

A lovely drawing, indeed. I like the title, and that it came from the list on the back, for a friend is so special, creative...beautiful...
You have such a way of making something so charming from something so simple...

'Silk purses out of sow's ears'?!!!.......Always found that such a freaky expression, but it's what I try to do! This sketchbook has lovely handmade Indian paper...I should photograph all the covers, they are made from antique scraps of fabric, then tied with cord & pretty tassels....in lovely mustards, silver-plums & olive-golds...I'm just addicted to the look of them! Thankyou for your always lovely comments!

Does this written piece have something to with immortalizing beauty?

I'm a huge fan of sewwing forms and you've used them in your art
which makes you my hero
I love how you've bonded the rib cage
and bust acting as part of the hat stand.
One would have to wonder if it is the lower part of her torso
filling out the dress so prettily.

it...

You always say such sweet things!...just to show I'm still filling up sketchbooks! My sister has an antique, linen-covered mannequin that rather inspired this...that Victorian thing of women being made of whalebone & steel...taken too literally!!

but you've said the magic words

(a happy death? never read it but it sounds right, eh?)

...It's the way I want to go!! You'd find Camus interesting-part of the French existentialist movement [although his L'Etranger or The Outsider is probably the one you've heard of]...actually, have you read Franz Kafka?, another member of the group-extremely surreal-if you haven't read Metamorphosis, I think [based on what I've read of your writing]you'd like it!

yeah, i've read metamorphosis, pretty interesting work. i've been meaning to read more of his stuff.
