The thick hooves trampled over the overgrown grassy fields, hidden away by the shade of the trees that loomed above. The orange horse was hauling several loads of apples and yet seemed to have not broken a sweat as of yet. As the mare continued through the orchard, her ears pricked up to a sudden and irregular sound.

Scratching, scraping and grunting.

The mare cautiously followed the source of the sound, her head low ready to fight if necessary. However as she turned the corner, she couldn’t have been more surprised.

In front of her was a purple unicorn, stood with her head bowed and clearly in distress. From a quick glance, the orange mare had deduced that this unicorn was stuck, her horn buried deep into the tree trunk.

“ AJ? “ The purple mare questioned, her voice somewhat hesitant.

“ Twilight… Are you alright there, girl? “ AJ replied, still baffled by the scene she was witnessing.

“ Mhm.. yep “ Twilight snappily answered. The air suddenly filled with a pressing and agonising silence.

Twilight’s ears pricked at the sound of a muffled laugh behind her, her own mouth letting out a sigh.

“ A… little help please? “

Unicorns, such as many antlered animals, like to scratch and sharpen their horns. Not only is a sharp and polished horn very stylish, it is very practical too. The blunter the horn, the more difficult it is to conduct magic however if it is sharp the magic conduction is much stronger.

While Unicorns do have files and salons to sharpen their horns, a rather traditional way is to rub against trees. While this is seen as uncouth, many unicorns can’t help the primitive urge.

AJ is very aware of this and it truly aggravates her. Not only is it trespassing but these dang unicorns are messing up her tree’s bark. The last pony she expected to stoop to this level was Twilight, an upper class, royalty trained, unicorn. But ever since that day in the orchard, AJ has never let Twilight forget it.
