He is a black tiger, which is a tiger with severe dark pigments and very rare to ever see.

I've read on wikipedia that A black tiger is a rare colour variant of the tiger and is not a distinct species or geographic subspecies and saw this photo [link]

Well him and his mate(who later passes on) are both different looking black tigers who exist in the same universe as a bunch of gryphons, it should be noted that I was not going for 100% realistic tiger colours. Seeing as they exist in a fantasy world.
