Hi, I'm from ProjectComment.
Let's start with the feathers. I love the way you made them, the colours you chose are simply gorgeous, it's like the phoenix is shining and it's good to see it's not too bright. I also appreciate the phoenix's "gaze". It gives an impression of nobility and classiness that's perfect for such an animal and what it symbolizes. It reminds me of Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes (such an example of classiness!).
For the background, I'm wondering: did you choose grey on purpose? Because it makes a little contrast with the warm colours of the phoenix.
Either way, I find it beautiful and eye-candy

Thank you very much! We did choose grey on purpose, because we thought a background with very little saturation would work well with a very saturated phoenix

Sand? That's a first time for me. But I have to admit that it renders the feathers wonderfully, and combined with the canvas the beack seems quite real. The bright colours are very vivid for the flames. Also, I like how, despite there are no lines, the phoenix is more defined than the blurred background, and also I like that ghostly figure behind the bird. My favourite part is the eye, despite being just some spots, is the best element. Well done!

Quite cool. I wish I could do this with paint! (I suck in the analogue art world...)

Coming from

the colors are just spectacular!! They look like cinders from a fire stuck onto a bird. The one error I see is that it resembles a rooster :/ I don't know why! But thats just me . I love how the painting resembles a canvas! The color pallet has a perfect balance between the hot colors and cold colors and isn't at all overwhelming. The shine in the eyes is very well done and the beak seems perfect too! And I just noticed that you did this with actuall brushes! That increases the respect I have for this real authentic painting. The strokes are perfect, but it isn't exactly like how I imagine a Phoenix (of course everyone has their own preference) but this bird doesn't seem...regal enough. And it honestly might be because of its huge forehead, I know that just plumage, but still. overall though this picture is just gorgeous and you should be extremely proud! wow! Impressive!

Thank you! Actually, we used a picture of a secretary bird as reference image (although, in the end it only roughly resembles a secretary bird, I guess ) Thanks for your comment!

This is INCREDIBLE! I am a huge fan of the splatter effect ^^

Also, you say Acrylics and sand; how is the sand used? Is it a texture element?

We mixed the sand with the paint, so the painting gets a very rough surface. Thank you!
