Description "I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing: that it was all started by a mouse."
-Walt Disney

100 years ago on this day, The Walt Disney Company is founded by brothers Walter Elias Disney and Roy Oliver Disney. When the company was founded, the two brothers would first start their empire by creating a series called Alice Comedies, which was about the adventures of a live-action girl named Alice in a cartoon world. Soon enough, they would go on to create their own characters who would become staples to their identity, and it wasn't until 1928 that they would soon make the cartoon that would star the character that would forever be associated with the company, and his name was Mickey Mouse. After several years of making cartoons, Walt Disney wanted to accomplish the impossible and create his first ever feature-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The task was not easy, as it proved to be much more expensive than expected, and it became the subject of ridicule by the public, who scoffed at the idea that a feature-length cartoon would actually be any good, but after four years of development, the film came out in 1937 to rave reviews, and is not only regarded as the one of the best Disney films ever made, but it also cemented itself as the film that would kickstart Disney's magical legacy. As the years went by, the company would make more and more successful films, and they would open a theme park in Anaheim, California called Disneyland in 1955. Suddenly, in 1966, the sad news broke out that Walt Disney passed away at the age of 65 due to lung cancer, as he was known as a heavy smoker. The company knew that if they wanted to keep their legacy alive, they would have to move on without their leader guiding them, and thankfully, they have, as they expanded their empire into what it is today, whether it's making more films, showcasing television programs, or acquiring different companies like Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm.

I'm sure that like a majority of the people living today, Disney has been a part of my life since my very birth. I remember when I really young, I had a few VHSs of Disney films that I would watch religiously nonstop. Those films were Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, and the first two Toy Story films. As I grew up, and my love for animation began to expand, I was checking out more of Disney's content I would pass up on, and I managed to find some real gems. Fun fact, I've only been to Disneyland once in my life. It was 2016, the year of my high school graduation. As per tradition with many high schools, the graduating students get to spend a day at Disneyland, and I had a really great time there. We ended up staying there until 2 AM, and the bus ride home was really quiet, as we were all passed out from the excitement. I hope to go back there some day, because there were plenty of rides I missed out on, like It's a Small World.

Now onto the artwork!

If there's one thing I'll forever associated with the Disney company, it's their animation studio. Like I mentioned a moment ago, I grew up watching their films, so I thought the best way to show my love for the animation studio is to draw at least one item from each theatrically released Disney animated film (at least in their canon). Try to see how many of them you recognize immediately, but if you want the full list, you can look below. The items featured include:

  • As you can imagine, like with many of my other collages that feature a large abundance of items, the biggest challenge of creating these objects is trying to position them in places that would allow them to be recognized, while simultaneously preventing them from blocking one or more others. This is also one of the very rare times that, when coloring the objects in, the colors aren't on their own separate layer. The reason I added the colors on the same layer as the outlines is because, considering I drew more than 60 items, having twice as many layers would be just as confusing. Also, as a last-minute addition, I decided to add in two Mickeys. On the left, we have Mickey as he appeared in Steamboat Willie, and on the right, we have Paul Rudish's 2013 rendition of Mickey. I added them not just because I wanted to show the evolution of the most famous Disney character, but also because it just doesn't feel right to celebrate Disney's centennial without having Mickey involved.

That's all there is to say here. Hope you liked my celebration 100 years in the making, and here's to another 100 years of magic and wonder from the most magical company to ever exist. What are some of your favorite Disney memories?
