Description "I'm gonna wreck it!"

10 years ago on this day, the Disney animated film Wreck-It Ralph was released in theaters. The film is about a video game character named Wreck-It Ralph, who is the bad guy of the arcade game he inhabits, Fix-It Felix Jr.. Every day for the past 30 years, Ralph gets jeered at by his peers all because of how they see him nothing more than just "the bad guy who wrecks the building". Wanting to prove that he can be a good guy, he decides to try and win a medal in the shooter game Hero's Duty. Although he succeeds in getting the medal, he accidentally loses it in a candy-themed racing game called Sugar Rush, where's forced to team up with a glitchy, outcast racer named Vanellope after she uses it as a token to enter her game's race to get it back. Unbeknownst to everyone, Ralph accidentally unleashes an unspeakable evil that could threaten the entire arcade, leaving the entire fate of all game-kind in his hands.

If you remember from my top 10 favorite animated films of the 2010 decade list, Wreck-It Ralph was my favorite film to come out that decade. The reason is because, out of all the films that came out in the 2010s, this film really stuck with me the most, even more so than some of the most highly acclaimed films of the decade like Zootopia or Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. I think the reason why this film stuck with me the most was because of how much it centered on video games, especially since it was filled with a ton of characters I was familiar with, like Sonic the Hedgehog, Q*bert, among others. Another reason why this film stuck with me was because of how much fun the story and characters were: the story was charming and easy to follow, and the characters were all entertaining in their own individual way.

In fact, I loved this film so much, me among others were hoping that this would be the winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Unfortunately, Pixar had to take home the gold again with their princess film Brave, which admittedly isn't too bad, but nowhere in the leagues as one of the best from Pixar. To this day, I'm still bitter over the fact that Wreck-It Ralph lost to Brave.

Before I get to the artwork, I might as well give my thoughts on the film's sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet. Considering that I loved the first film to bits, I was highly anticipating for Ralph and Vanellope's adventure in the world wide web. After I saw it when it came out in 2018, I really enjoyed it, but not as much as the first. My comment seems to be much of an unpopular opinion, because when people hate the film, they really mean it, like lower than a 4 or 5 out of 10. From what I've read, most of the hate seems to come from the fact that the story is built around internet culture, like having outdated memes, integrating popular social sites like Twitter and Reddit or, what people consider the most laughable scene in the film, Ralph getting his feelings hurt just from looking at the comments section. I guess in one way, I can understand where they're coming from, because these elements will make the film look outdated in the future.

Now onto the artwork!

Like with any artwork I made that features a 3D character, whether it's Disney or DreamWorks, the way I drew the character was with clip art, since they help me understand how to draw a 3D character in a 2D style, and makes color picking easier when coloring them in. After I found a good clip art image of Ralph, I managed to draw him in the pose I desired without having him looking too awkward in a lot of areas.

When it comes to the brick background, the bricks came from a stock image (because drawing all those bricks individually would result in me pulling my hair out). The achieve the hole Ralph punches, I drew an oval, erased anything in it, as well as any bricks that were cut off. As for the graffiti, I decided to have the graffiti feature some reference to video games. The graffiti includes Mario and Luigi's initials, the Konami code, "all your base are belong to us", and "do you yield". Speaking of the latter, that line comes from the trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie; I decided to include that line, even though it's not explicitly from a video game, because the trailer for the aforementioned film really highlighted the first half of October.

That's all there is to say here. Hope you liked this artwork, and remember that you don't need a medal to prove you can be a good guy, because if people like you for who you are, how bad can you be?
