Chapter Two

Later that night, Alexis was asleep in her bed when she heard the door creak open.  She shot her eyes open as she heard footsteps approaching her bed and quickly flipped over to see a young woman glaring at her from beside her bed, "So your the one who has taken my lord's heart?!  Disgusting!  I will not allow it!  You will die now!" she whispered harshly, her fangs bared.  Alexis gasped as she suddenly lunged at her and quickly jumped out of bed as she glared back at her.  She quickly lifted her nightgown to reveal a small dagger strapped to her calf and pulled it out.  The vampiress glared at her as she crouched down on the bed before she launched at her again.  Alexis quickly dodged again until she found herself against a cold stone wall.  She looked behind her as she gasped and then turned back to the vampiress as she started cackling.  "There is no place for you to run now, wench!" she said as she prepared to pounce on her again.  Alexis quickly dodged again as she lunged at her and yelled as the vampiress turned in midair and struck her on the arm.  Alexis held her arm as blood started soaking the sleeve of her nightgown and gazed up at the vampiress as she ran at her again.  "That's enough, Ambre!" a deep voice yelled from the doorway.  Ambre gasped as they both turned to see Ambrose standing in the doorway as he glared at Ambre.

Ambrose walked up to Alexis and gently took her arm in his hands as he looked at the scratch marks on her arm.  "M-My lord?" Ambre said as she watched him.  Ambrose glared at her intensely, telling her to be quiet, before he looked back at the scratches as blood dripped out of it, "Their becoming infected." he murmured as the scratches started to turn red, "Damn it, Ambre.  You and your poisonous nails.".  He ripped her sleeve off her arm and then gently took hold of Alexis' arm before he leaned down to it.  Alexis winced as she watched him start gently licking the scratches with his tongue and then blushed as he pulled back, "There.  That feels much better doesn't it." he asked as he smiled sweetly at Alexis.  Alexis looked back down at the scratches and her eyes widened as she saw the redness around them vanish.  Then she looked back at Ambrose as he pulled out a clean white handkerchief out of his pocket and wrapped it around her arm, covering the scratches.  Then he turned back to Ambre, "Ambre, get out of here.  I'll deal with you later." he said as he glared at her.  Ambre cringed and then nodded, "Yes, my lord." she said sadly.  She looked over at Alexis and glared at her before she turned into black smoke drifted out of the room, through the window.  Ambrose turned back to Alexis to see her gazing at the window as little worried, "Don't worry.  She won't bother you again, Alexis.  I'm sorry for the trouble she has caused." he said as he smiled at her.  She looked back at him and smiled before she looked back at the window.  "Hmm?" he asked.  "What did she mean by "the one who has taken my lord's heart"?" she asked as she looked back at Ambrose.  Ambrose's eyes widened and then he smiled, "Don't worry about it, Alexis.  That's something that you shouldn't be worried about right now." he said before he bowed a little bit, "I'll leave you to rest now.  Good night.".  Alexis watched him a little confused as he walked out the door.  She walked back to her bed and laid down as she thought about it and pondered as to what it meant until intense drowsiness overcame her and she shut her eyes.

The next morning, Alexis woke up and sat up.  She winced as pain radiated from her arm and looked over at it.  Ambrose's handkerchief caressed her arm lovingly, "So that really did happen last night." she thought as she placed her hand on it.  Then she got up and got her normal clothes on.  She walked down to the dining hall and opened one of the double doors.  She peeked in and saw that no one else was there.  She walked in and sat down at the long table as she waited on the others' to get there.  As she waited a servant came in with a plate of food and walked up to her.  He smiled as he placed it in front of her, "Order from Lord Kemp before he went to rest." he said.  Alexis smiled, "Thank you." she said as she thought about Ambrose.  The servant bowed and then left as she started eating.  Soon Baldric walked in with three other knights behind him.  She turned to them and smiled, "Good morning, Baldric." she said as the others sat down and started talking.  Baldric sat down beside her as he smiled back, "Good morning, Ms. Lennon." he said as he looked over at her, "Did you have a good sleep?".  She nodded, "Yes.  I did." she said.  Other servants' walked in with plates in their hands and placed them in front of them.  Alexis looked over at the other knights.  "Did you hear about a demon hunter lurking around, Delma?" one of them asked the other as he gazed at her.  The other nodded, "I heard that he killed a vampire lord in the next region over.  They say that he's like a shadow.  No one can so much as touch him." she said in a clear irish accent as she gazed at him.  He nodded, "I heard that many vampire knights were killed as they tried to protect their lord." he said in an husky scottish accent as he gently brushed aside a strand of her long fiery red hair.  She gasped as her eyes widened and she placed her hand on his, "We better be careful while we're on duty tonight, Angus." she said.  He smiled as he nodded, "Aye.  We better." he said sweetly.  Baldric looked over at them, a little irritated, "Alright, Angus, Delma.  Just because you two are married doesn't mean that you can act indecently in front of people." he said.  Alexis' eyes widened as she gazed at them, "What is a demon hunter?" she asked.  They both looked over at her, "A demon hunter is a very powerful hunter who is extremely skilled in killing mythological creatures, including vampires." Angus said as he gazed at her.  "They are the vampire knights woe.  No one has ever been able to defeat one even though some have tried." Delma said.  Baldric looked over at Alexis, "But, your brother, Alden was able to wound one who attempted to kill Lord Kemp before you came." he said.  She gasped as her eyes widened and then she looked down sadly, "Is that how he died?" she asked.  Baldric nodded sadly, "Yes.  I'm sorry, Alexis.  But I thought that it was best if you knew." he said as he gently placed his hand on her shoulder.  Alexis looked back up at him and smiled, "No.  No.  I glad you did." she said as a tear ran down her cheek.

Later that night, Alexis was walking around the castle grounds.  It was her turn to stand guard over the castle while Ambrose was out.  She kept her hand on the hilt of her sword as she looked around the moonlit forests and fields for any sign of danger.  Then sighed sadly as she remembered what Baldric said earlier, "That's how Alden died, huh?  Now I know who to take my revenge on." she thought.  Then suddenly there was a rustle behind her and Alexis quickly turned around as she drew her sword.  She slashed it only to have it caught by Ambrose.  She gasped as she realized that it was him, "Ambrose?  You shouldn't have done that.  I could of killed you." she said.  He smirked as she sheathed her sword, "That's not possible, Alexis.  I'm already dead.  There are only certain ways to kill my kind." he said.  Her eyes widened as she blushed and she looked down, "Oh, right.  Sorry." she said.  Then she gasped as she suddenly felt his fingers slide under her chin and lift her face to his.  They gazed into each other's eyes for a minute.  Alexis started shaking as she felt the feeling in her chest grow stronger and then it mixed in with a feeling of fear as he gazed into her eyes intensely, "A-Ambrose?  Was there something you wanted?" she asked.  He gazed into her eyes intently as he slid his arms around her, "Your afraid of me, aren't you, Alexis?" he asked.  She swallowed hard and then shook her head, "No.  Not you, Ambrose.  I'm afraid of this feeling I get when I'm around you." she said as her lips started trembling and tears ran down the sides of her face into her short brunette hair that she kept braided along the back of her shoulders.  He gasped and then lifted up his hand to her cheek.  Alexis gasped as she felt his cold hand brush the tear away from her cheek, "Why are you afraid of this feeling?" he asked as his hand slid back around her.  She gasped, "I'm afraid because I heard that vampires are not capable of loving anyone and I've fallen for you, Ambrose." she said.  He gazed at her for a minute before he leaned towards her.  Alexis gasped as his cold smooth lips pressed against hers and she started breathing rapidly as she slowly slid her arms around him as she slowly kissed him back.  He gently slid his hand up along her back until it rested on the back of her head as he pulled back and gazed into her eyes lovingly, "Whoever told you that was lying, Alexis.  Because I have fallen for you since we first met." he said before he leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers again.  Alexis slid her hands up along his chest and slid her arms around his neck as they continued kissing.

Chapter Two
