did you think about using clear resin instead of wax?

I am thinking about making a Ponyo in this same fashion as a gift for dear friend. Any tips on creating the 3-D Ponyo character out of clay? I just love this piece.

Sorry for the late reply. A tip I'd give is try to build Ponyo in pieces. I do this for all my sculpeys. I'd do the main part first (like the head), bake it, then add on the details (like the hair) and then re-bake it. If you bake it at a low enough temperature, nothing will burn. Then I'd do the body and when you're ready to put everything together, I'd glue it with either super glue or the translucent sculpey bake and bond. I find that baking things and adding as you go is a good trick because the clay becomes solid after baking. So you won't have to worry about putting too much pressure in your fingers (which results in morphing the piece) as you try to add the detail.

Ah it's really nice, but I'm sorry the wax and stuff didn't work out for you! D: If it's any help at all, my mom used to do a lot of fake water stuff where she'd used liquid acrylic, and she never had a problem with it. It'd probably be a lot more stable than the wax and wouldn't be prone to blistering when it cools! O: I hope that's helpful and I hope your next attempt comes out like you wanted it! <3

I actually really like this! It's a great idea and I think it was executed well! The bubbles actually bring it to life, as if she's really swimming around! Great job <3

I can see why working on this was so dificult. Although it's not how you imagined, I still think it amazing

I think she looks adorable! The bubbles make it look like she's really submerged in water. Maybe it's cuter that she's looking up - then when you'd be holding the jar, it looks like she's looking up at you!

Hm... still looks pretty good, though. The bubbles make it look a bit more like water, almost as though you just plopped her back into the water. I do see your point with the positioning, but it still has an overall cute appearance.
