Description Oh look, more Wall-E.
My sister's youth group was having a fundraiser dinner with a sales table, and she asked if I could maybe draw something for it. I made this in about 2 1/2 hours; it's just colored pencil on sketch paper. But I matted and framed it for the event, and hey, it got sold! Woot! First piece I've sold.

This is so cute and so well drawn! I love the design too, very creative and cute! Nice job, you have talent and I bet it took forever...I know it probably would've taken me more than two in a half hours hehe That is also so cool that you got it framed! I wish we had youth group stuff like that

Aww, thank you! I'm really glad too because the lady who bought it got it to hang in her 5 year-old's room. So glad it didn't go to someone who would just stuff it in the attic.
Haha, technically it's my sister's youth group. She's begged me to join for years, but it's just a little too frilly for my taste.

Awwww that is so sweet of her to do! When stuff like that happens, you know that you did a good job!!! You scored by having someone who needed it buy it There are some people who buy stuff just to be nice but don't care about it...you didn't get one of those woot woot!

You're not part of the youth group? I can understand not getting into them...but they're SUPER fun, especially when you get to know everyone in it! Was it a big or small youth group (I go to two of them haha one of each).

AnnaNM In reply to becules [2011-08-03 22:18:39 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! If someone pity buys something, I would rather they just leave it be. I'd rather have to take it back home unsold than have it go to waste in someone else's home. Because quite frankly, if they aren't going to hang it up on a wall, I would.

Nah, my sister's group is kind of an old-timey, masonic affiliated thing and I'm too tom-boyish for them. It's a small group; there's maybe ten girls actively involved in their chapter. But hey, I justify my non-involvement by remembering that I was in 4-H for seven or eight years.

becules In reply to AnnaNM [2011-08-03 22:30:32 +0000 UTC]

You couldn't have said it any better! If they buy something, it should go to use, not just sit around. That's just a waste of money too in my opinion.

It's an all girls youth group? that's so cool but I can totally understand if you don't want to be a part of that! All of my youth groups were co-ed haha and 4-H!!! (may I ask what that is....sowwy ><)

Thank you! Someone who actually thinks an all girls youth group is cool. (I'm the aforementioned sister, btw). It's called Rainbow Girls and it's a group for girls 11-20. We do a bunch of community service, as well as hold fundraisers for a charity that is selected for the year. All of the assemblies in the state raise money for this one group, then we present them with a check at our convention. This year, our state charity (or service project) is the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation. It's a sports league specifically for wheelchair atheletes. *deep breath* ok, so that was the long-winded speech about my group. www.gorainbow.org

haha it would be fun just to hang with girls! And hi Anna's sister, it's very nice to meet you are you doing camp nanowrimo as well?

That's a cool name, Rainbow Girls. It's cuz you shine like a rainbow! That is so nice of you to donate so much to a given charity each year. I'm sure they really appreciate it....and the one you chose for this year sounds amazing. I want to see a wheelchair game one day, they look fun

When I have time (which will most likely be after this month of doing camp nanowrimo) I will go check out that website thank you!!!!!

Hi there No, I'm not doing camp nanowrimo; I have no writing talent whatsoever, lol. Besides, I don't have enough time! ha ha
Ah Rainbow....it's a special name. Sometimes people take it as you did, "Hey! Rainbows are awesome! Double Rainbows are even better!!" Other times people give me a strange look and ask if it's a lesbian support group. *head desk* (For the record, it's not). But I love Rainbow, and if you're truly interested, you should check it out. If you're from California...our website is www.gocarainbow.org. And if you're interested, I can get you in contact with someone in your area. If you're from another place, erm...I have limited contacts, ha ha. But I do know someone in Alaska, Nevada, Washington, Idaho, New Jersey, New York, Arizona, and Australia! If you're not interested...I'll shut up now. kthanxbai

becules In reply to MusicianNJNY [2011-08-10 17:31:24 +0000 UTC]

I bet you have talent but if you don't like writing, not doing camp nanowrimo is understandable it's really fun though!

I bet people give you those reactions....I know a few people who would've given the second response but I figured that it wasn't a lesbian support group. That wouldn't be cool at all I'm for California so it's all good But I won't be able to join because I'm going off to college and won't have time for anything....I'm going to be living in a dorm and that alone is going to be a new experience for me haha thank you very much though! I think maybe if I have kids someday I'll put them through that program and you know a contact in Australia? They have it in Australia?!!!! I love that place....although I haven't been there in a while haha XD thanks so much for everything!

Talent? No. My dearest sister got everything talent-wise; writing, drawing, playing piano, cooking...etc. I got sewing and faking that I can play piano, lol.
Yep, it's a worldwide group. From Canada to Aruba to Brazil to the Phillipines, it's everywhere. Unfortunately though, we're small. The biggest jurisdiction is California, and we're only at about 800 members for the entire state; so that gives you an idea of how large it is in other areas.
I understand, College does put a damper on your social life, ha ha. But hey, you can always look me up if you find yourself in need of something to do, lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

becules In reply to MusicianNJNY [2011-08-12 20:22:14 +0000 UTC]

I bet you play piano way better than me...I learned it for like a month and then quit cuz my teacher moved. So kudos to you!

I bet you have talent!!! Just other stuff that your sister doesn't have you're an amazing person as sewing....just like my friends mom. Wish I could do that! She made my friends prom dress and it looked so professional! Something tells me that you can do the same

wow, I didn't know it was that small. But sometimes the small ones are the fun ones they rock it!!! So did they start out in California? Is that why it has the biggest members? Or is that because we're the most populated state?

I shall do that if I need something to do for sure thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MusicianNJNY In reply to becules [2011-08-15 16:44:37 +0000 UTC]

YOU PLAY PIANO?!? That's awesome. (Don't give up because you're teacher moved, keep with it, you'll be glad you did! Trust me!)

Ha ha, sewing is really my only thing...I guess public speaking; but that's not really talent so much as something I became good at because of Rainbow. (We do A LOT of speeches, lol)

Yeah, Rainbow's kinda small, but when you consider how many countries it's in, it's huge. It actually started in Oklahoma by a methodist minister. It's largest in California now, because we have the most fun!! Ha ha, that and we've got a huge population.

becules In reply to MusicianNJNY [2011-08-25 23:04:24 +0000 UTC]

Wow, way late reply sorry about that!

I did, but not so much anymore. I barely remember anything, I guarandogtee you that you know more than I do and are way better! But I'm kinda trying to learn guitar now so let's hope that goes somewhere

I'm good at public speaking too because of drama. But that is saying a lot because most are afraid of it and totally butcher their speeches if they don't know how to properly speak. So that's great that your good at it!!! And I'm jealous that you know sewing....that takes skill!!!

It started in Oklahoma? How cool is that how long has it been around for? And it's no wonder that it's so big here but it sounds great!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MusicianNJNY In reply to becules [2011-08-26 15:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Good luck on your guitar!
That's great that you did drama! I really wish I had done it in college, but I didn't really want to pay for another class...

Yep, it started in Oklahoma back in 1922; almost 90 years ago! Since it was started in the 20's, back then women always wore dresses, so the dress code for meetings was long, formal dresses. After a while, dresses kinda went out of fashion, but we still wear them in Rainbow because it's tradition, and were essentially embracing our history. So the dresses thing is what sets us apart, and I love it.

You graduated from college? Where did you go? I'm just starting out college in mid september and I have no clue what to expect!!! Drama is super fun though

really? You all wear dresses? THAT IS SO COOL!!!! And that is a really long time ago that it was founded! Your guys' history is off the hook, amazing!!! What color are the dresses? And do you still wear the long formal kind of dresses or more modern day dresses?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MusicianNJNY In reply to becules [2011-08-26 20:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I just graduated from Cal State East Bay. Yay!! I was a weird homeschool freak, so I finished early, lol. What to expect kind of depends on your major. Basically though, expect long nights of essay writing, a lot of trips to the library for research, group projects (yuck), and expensive textbooks, lol.

Hahaha, I love it that you think long dresses are cool. Not many people do anymore, lol. The dresses are all different colors, just nothing really dark like black or brown. Because we wear dresses all the time, we also make a lot of fun dresses out of cotton print fabric. So I have one that's Disney/Pixar Cars, I have one with musical instruments all over it, I used to have one with crayons all over it...they're fun But anyhoo, Rainbow's the reason why I made that dress that's on my profile. A lot of the girls don't sew anymore, but I'm trying to encourage them all to start, ha ha. Once you can sew, the possibilities are endless!

Wow, that is so great! I actually was going to go to Cal State Long Beach, but at the last minute changed colleges haha XD I used to be homeschooled but I know that you were way better at it then I was! Graduating early is the bomb, those people are really smart and I want your smarts!!!! Wow, sounds like a lot takes places in college. But I'm excited and ready to embrace it! And they still have group projects in college? I hope I can choose the groups!!! Textbooks are too much money...it sucks!!!

I love long dresses, they're really cute So you actually make your own uniforms? I didn't know that! Jealous!!! I want those skills haha and the colors! Bright ones would be so cute Oh my goodness, you're dresses sound soooo cool!!!! You have to post pictures of them up here, I wanna see them!!! When you know how to sew....there's so much fun with things you can do! I agree, the possibilities are endless!!!!

MusicianNJNY In reply to becules [2011-08-30 04:46:09 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha this is so much fun talking to you. You were homeschooled too? Small world, lol. Nah, I wasn't better at it, I just starting going to junior college in place of high school in tenth grade (because it counted for both high school and college credit) and five years later now I have my degree! I started early...I didn't skip ahead because of supernatural intelligence, ha ha. Yes, at least where I went, almost every class had a group project (you were assigned a group) and I swear, everytime I'm part of a group project, I end up doing all the work D:< ugh...but hopefully you'll have better luck. Textbooks are expensive, yes. Try buying online as much as possible if you want to save money. (But NEVER buy from eBay. People are lazy about shipping stuff to you. Buy from amazon or alibris.com)

Ha ha, I love long dresses too We don't all make our own dresses, some girls buy them as well, but making dresses is a lot cheaper than buying new ones. Most girls don't sew, so there are a lot of supportive adults who are always willing to help out. That's one of things I love about Rainbow. The adults are SOOOOO supportive. Anything you could ever need, they're there. Always willing to drive somewhere, sew a dress for you, help you plan an event, or let you stay the night at their house. I travel all over the state because of my office (I actually travel more than a lot of girls, haha) and I NEVER have to rent a hotel room. I can just call up someone in the area, and they'll open up their home. So that's why I carry thank you cards with me all the time, ha ha. But back to the dresses...I posted a few pictures of ones I made, I'll rummage around for pics of some others. Yes, I LOVE knowing how to sew now. I just leave my sewing machine set up now, ha ha. I remember one time, I needed a knee-length navy skirt and I couldn't find one anywhere (for less than $50) so I just went down to Ross, bought a navy dress for $10, cut the top and sewed over the edge on the top, and presto! Skirt for $10. I'm pretty frugal type person, lol. Ha ha, I wonder what Anna's comment thread looks like now that we've spammed it. I think we should find each other on facebook or something.

Yes, I was homeschooled, but only for a short while when I was younger. By first grade (more like the middle of first grade) I was enrolled in a private christian school (which sucked btw). But it's still pretty cool that you were able to get ahead! Is junior college the same as AP classes? And that is so amazingly cool that you have your degree? How old are you??? And yes you have supernatural intelligence!

I'm the same with you on group projects...I always get stuck doing all the work. And sometimes when I rely on other people to do some part they fail at it it sucks And yeah, I did actually buy some books from amazon and alibris. And half.com, which is an ebay company, but way more reliant

Wow, that is so cool how the parents are so supportive! I wish my mom were that way *sigh* it's so nice that you get to travel and stay with people, it's way cheaper and funner that way! Plus you get to meet new friends ^^ that's so nice for you to carry thank you cards around as well, some people don't do that kind of stuff and I don't like that

I saw the pictures you posted on here...you make REALLY cute dresses! And look uber pretty in them too!!!! You have real talent And that's so creative making that navy skirt like that; easy peesy, lemon squeesy haha you girl girl!

I bet her thread is super small, but who cares as long as I can see the comments in my inbox, it's all cool What your name (first & last), I'll add you on facebook Although, warning, I don't go on there too often (but I have a lot more than usual lately haha ^^)

Ah I see. No junior college isn't AP classes (I mean I suppose it sort of counts like AP) but junior college is just another name for two year community college.
Good job on the books I would stay away from half.com. I ordered books there once and they arrived six weeks after classes started =X
Yeah, the parents in Rainbow are the best! (Well, actually all the friends are the best, but parents are a close second) I love my whole Rainbow family
Thanks! Dresses are my thing I have a few more that I'm planning on making, but who knows if I'll have the time to make all of them. I'll probably start on one this weekend...maybe.
Ha ha, I don't go on Facebook and really use it that often either, but I check in on it about twice a day. (Weeks will pass before I update my status though, ha ha) I wish there was some sort of private message thing in deviantART, maybe there is and I haven't found it, ha ha. Well anyhow, my name is Sarah Morgan.

Awww I love it when you have tight nit stuff like that, where everyone is supportive I'm so glad you had/have a great time there!

Have you started on one? If you have you have to post a picture when you're done...you're so talented and creative, you have it all going for you!

That's kinda me, but kinda not as well haha I typed your name in a sooo many people popped up! Maybe it's better if you add me...I'll send you a note that may be the more private way that you haven't found yet haha

I didn't make a dress this weekend :/ I had figured I would have time since I didn't have anything planned for the weekend, but then found out my dad had made plans for me to help with a bunch of yardwork and gardening. So...I didn't make anything. But, that's ok. I can sew later.
Ha ha, I figured that would happen. There are SOOO many of us on Facebook. We actually have a group, lol. OK, I'll check my notes, and see if I can find you on there

No problem! 4-H is a youth group that focuses on teaching kids various skills that they might want to learn for their adult lives. Pretty much how I heard it explained was that when it started, it was mostly parents taking turns teaching children different skills like sewing, cooking, carpentry, different types of animal care and what not. But as it got bigger, they started adding more recreational "projects" for the kids to be involved in. Like I started by doing projects for photography, dog obedience, and horse care. Plus you have community meeting once a month where all the kids get together and talk about different community service projects they're organizing to do as a a group and go over budget and such. It was actually pretty cool as a kid, though also just a little time consuming.

And it really was great getting to work with all the animals. And plus at the end of the year I got to compete in an obedience class for dogs, and some western shows for horseback riding.

Haha, I remember being a brownie girl. For some reason, my area never established an actual girl scouts club.

Yes, I do! Or at least vaguely. But at least all my dogs know how to sit, stay, and heel, which I consider decent. Lol, hey I used to do hunter jumper! But then I bought a horse who was waaaay better at western than anything English, so I made the switch. Now I just pleasure ride/ barrel race for fun.

I saw! Ooh, I'll have to look at the scenario; I'll try to help if I can.
