he would be terribly un balenced if he was kept like that! im guessing that he was matted because he looks like he was clipped pretty short.
looks like he has a lot of nice coat on his head to work with. maybe enough to do a cute little trim on his head to stylize him a little more. maybe something like [link] line=48&id=&action=&view=album
^ with link above, click on black poodle first row. note the longer ears with the topknot scissored close to the head and a nice tight beard. that would be a cute way to finish him up. this style obviously works best for dogs with high ear set, but if not you can create illusion of higher ear set

hehe, yea i know he would have been really unbalenced, we did trim all that wild hair down alot so he didnt have a huge well bobble head effect goin on hehe, i just wanted to keep the head for ammusment purposes, and yea he was pretty matted, ugh it's such a headache when we have owners that come in and are like wha? my dog? matted? no way...."i brush them"....ya pass them a comb and they brush the tips of the hair...its like uhhh.....you go down to the skin....makes you wanna slap them.....wish i could some days lol

i got an owner like that today. with a bichon, i had to shave the face like a poodle (blech) but it actually turned out OK. see, with my shavedowns i always try to keep tail and face with hair. so the dog can have some style. i trimmed the ears like bedlington terrier (with tassels) and made a round top knot. i should have taken pics. he looked soooooo cute! there are some times where breed correct trims are impossible, thats when we, as dog groomers can get a bit creative and mix and match to make it work.

yea we do the same thing at work, we dont shave a dog completely bald unless the owners want it or if its absolutlely have to because the dogs are just to matted, its sad when they are a kennel 7 bald and you have to go down to a 10 blade in some spots because the matting is so bad

i hate it. owners who cant keep up with their dog should just keep it short, or take it to the groomer once a month. hmmm..that seems like a good idea.
then there are the owners who wont let you shave down. i have only one of those and i have had a talk with her since then. ugh she is a pain

we have alot of people that are like that, so we get bluntly honest lol and we're like well...do you want your dog to have bad brush burn to the point there skin is ripped appart and bleeding? that usually shuts them up

lol. if a groomer told me that, i definately would opt for the shaving down. do you ever groom show dogs or groom in dog grooming competitions?

oh. how long have you been grooming? i have been grooming for 3 years and i have been showing for 5 (well...would have been 5 had i continued this year, so technically 4). but i have gone to grooming contests and competed. i also try to hold my grooming more up to show/grooming competition standards rather than just "pet grooming" standards. the standards of competition grooming and "pet" grooming are very different. if you hold your grooming up to competition standards, you will produce better finishes on the dogs
these may include specific pattern placement on the dog, i.e back of topknot on poodles should align with the back of the rear legs when the dog is fully stacked, perfectly scissored finishes and proportions on the dogs, and possibly hiding potential structural flaws of the dog (based on AKC standards)

i've only been grooming for a year now, started out as a bath and brusher befor my boss taught me how to groom other dogs, so i've never gone to school for it or anything like that, actually i only started grooming cause the shop is close to my house and i saw the help wanted sign and decided to give it a go and i fell in love with it, i dont think i could handle show grooming, trying to make a dog perfect, i'd be to paranoid that its not and well...yea lol well leave it at that, and an off topic subject your very nice to talk to so if you want to chat on msn if you have it feel free to add me ^_^

haha...no msn. but do have skype. my skype name is same as my DA username. SweeneyTodd2010
and hey, do you have a petgroomerforums account (have i asked you this before)?
go here [link] and make one. they are soooooo helpful there and you will learn a hole lot and improve your grooming ( i dont know what you grooming looks like because this pic you posted is of a dog not finished). but with a year of experience, there is a lot out there to learn. on the pet groomer forums there are many dog groomers contributing to the threads, being a part of that message board allows you to keep updated on all events in the grooming industry as well as some of the newer products (i.e scissors, clippers, restraint systems, shampoos, manufacturer's specials etc). its a great thing to join and im trying to spread word of it on here for the groomers in order to better improve the grooming industry. if you only knew the lack of professionalism this industry has....
