Description
Pencil portrait of Gollum from Lord of the Rings using a series of graphite pencils. 4H-9B and eraser. The actual drawing size is 18x24. Let me know your thoughts.None of my drawings have any charcoal or carbon. Strictly graphite pencils.

Thanks. It took quite a lot of time to do it and I hadn't drawn a creature before so I was trying to expand my subject matter.

Excellent work! You manage to capture the essence of the character, especially your choice of contrast, the darker tones make the sketch much more atmospheric!

Thank you. I do favor the darker tones. I've tried to lighten up on it a little bit with some of my recent works that I haven't posted yet but I like being able to see that large contrast in tone so I will probably go back to that technique.

Its onΒ Pro-Art Strathmore Drawing Premium Recycled Paper 18x24. I use an 8B or 9B pencil and heavily saturate it in the pencil then I go over it with an eraser to smooth it out. I dont use the eraser enough to actually erase but just to smooth it out...try it sometime you'll see what I mean.

Thanks. I debated whether to add some hair though. According to the movie he has very little hair but he does have it. I'm a little worried about ruining the picture by adding it.
