So in game, does this just obliterate every thing that comes near it in one shot or is it more balanced

Can't crack the shields of the Ur-Didact's ship Mantle's Approach, that's an impressive feat considering the SMAC lobs a 3000-ton Tungsten Carbide slug at 12,000 kilometers per second.

I meant in the mod the model was designed for, not Halo itself, and I don't think any S-macs were fired at it, if only for plot reasons, Big bad ain't so scary if he gets sucker punched by the first thing he gets in range of.

In the Halo Universe? It's really true, this quote from the Halo 4 level Midnight explains it:
- Orbital Defense (COM): "This is Earth Orbital Defense! MAC defense ineffective against enemy vessel. It's still approaching."

As well as the the ship behind it... while still having enough energy behind the round to destroy the one behind that one. Shields, Hull and all on all three.

Well cripple the third but technically it wouldn't be operational so yes it's a three in one

That just gave me an idea on how the UNSC could beat the Covenant in space: Line up the Covie's ships and fire MACs! BAM! Everyones happy! : D Well, except the Covies of course.

In fact that was an actual tactic. The UNSC Fleet would form up, line abreast, and once the Covies got in range, they would unleash a mass MAC Salvo, with usually two to three ships targeting a single Covenant Ship, mainly because the shields on a Covenant Ship could take anywhere from one to three or more MAC shots before the shields failed. A Standard MAC Cannon would fire a 600 ton, 9.1 meter long Depleted Uranium Slug traveling at 30,000 meters per second, this shell hits with the force of 64.53 Kiloton Nuclear Warhead that means, a Mark II MAC Cannon is a Weapon of Mass Destruction. This means that you check your targets and you wait for the AI to give you a firing solution, and you are not a "Cowboy shooting from the hip!"
The Mark V Super MAC, fires a 1200 ton Depleted Uranium Slug at 12,000 kilometers per second or 4% the Speed of Light. This thing will impact with the force of 51.6 Gigatons of TNT! The only ship that has survived direct hits from this thing is the Ur Didact's Mantle's Approach, granted that thing is a Forerunner Ship.
Yes, I blatanly referenced Mass Effect 2 and the Sir Issac Newton is the Deadliest SOB in Space clip.

I'd have thought that tactic would have been used more by Mass Effect ships, what with their spinal cannons' projectiles being faster than that of a MAC. Also that reference xD
And I wonder what would happen if, lets say all UNSC ships had Super MACs strapped onto them...?

They are huge and require a massive amount of power, so much so that they have groundside generators, but they have a rate of fire of 12-rounds per minute.

Then again, I'd assume ships the size of and exceeding the size of the UNSC Infinity could mount a slightly downscaled version of a SMAC, what with their massive power outputs and the fact that the UNSC Infinity has Forerunner technology
