I don't like disabled comments either. I really enjoy commenting on people's artwork telling how I like their art. But it makes me wonder why they post their art but don't want any comments at all. Comments are very important for DeviantArt since a lot of artists want actual feedback instead of favorites and llamas so they want to know what people find interesting about their artwork.

Yeah, but I also think it's because of trolls and cyberbullies saying hurtful comments on their art which is why they disable comments. But I also get bothered by the block system that DeviantArt has. People have blocked me for no reason even if I follow the rules and try to be respectful. Besides, the only people I block are art thieves, trolls, cybercriminals, scammers, and pedophiles.

Also this stamp isn't about blocking/hiding individual comments but rather how people have the option to disable the entire comment section on the artwork they submit. This means no one would be able to comment whether they were planning on being mean, nice, or whatever.

If a specific individual is continually harassing you, you should also be reporting them.

I really don't like it when someone posts something extremely ignorant or wrong about a delicate issue, and disables comments so that no-one can correct them of their ignorance.Β

If they didn't want comments, why bother posting? That's like making a song, and not wanting people to listen to it.

Yeah the best thing to do is just to hide the comments that you don't like, which is what i do.

This annoys me to no end because disabling comments should only happen if spam gets out of control nothing more, it should not be used as a weeboo shield.

I never disable comments because comments are my way of knowing that other people are looking at my art and i'm not just talking to myself..
Seriously i love getting comments even if it just says "I hate you for no valid reason!" I still need to here opinion, Without having opinion i am nothing!
I Also hate going down to a comment section trying to find an opinion i can relate to or to see other people's opinion on something and then all of the sudden the comments are disabled.
Simply put.. I. HATE. DISABLED. COMMENTS.

I'm fine with it on art, some people don't feel comfortable getting criticism(or people give very negative criticism, if it could even be called that, about their art, I've seen it happen a bit), but on controversial stamps, it pisses me off. Why make a controversial stamp about something then disable the comments? That seems a bit cowardly IMO. I mean, if it's an old stamp, sure. After awhile every new comment is just something said in the past, but a stamp that is newer? It's pointless to bring up a controversial topic and disable comments.

anonymous-bot In reply to ORE0S [2014-07-06 16:11:19 +0000 UTC]
Well for art you could just ask commenters to not give criticism. I think most people would be willing to cooperate. As for controversial stamps, I agree! People have the freedom to express their opinions but any resulting consequences or feedback are another issue.

The ONLY website in which I am okay with disabling comments is YouTube because that website is so brain-dead it's not even funny.
If you outright disable comments on your stamps on deviantART, there's a 99% chance I will not take you seriously.

The choice of disabling comments is very well left to the author and I am not saying you shouldn't have the choice. However, having only one-way communication just seems a little unfair to the audience.

Is it normal that every time you open this "art" site you don't even find art because it's outnumbered by shit?

If it's normal, then this isn't an art site. Just noticing because I don't think it was always like that.

I suppose it depends on how you define art or what kind of artwork you are expecting in the first place. Furthermore keep in mind deviantART has been around for more than a decade, I bet a lot has changed in that time (not just the site itself but society in general and the site's visitors).
