Great colors and textures within. How do you get the hand colored look using digital tools, my CS3 stuff just looks flat and mechanical so I have just been sticking to color shapes. Any tips are definitely appreciated.

sorry for replying (again) this late...
i tend to forgot what i'm intending to write when i give a quick reply.

uhm, you might want to try this trick i've tried and practiced for some time.

suppose your coloring a pure black n white sketch (already inked) and you've colored it in basic color. obviously you'd wanna color it with a highlighted color tone, or another color of "light" is reflected on the object. not just, using ure word "flat", basic colors.

well, back to layers. if you've made layers for coloring.
select the part with a wand tool (right click on the lasso polygonal tool in photoshop).

then, select the color you intend to add.

third, choose brush tool. right click and make the diameter as wide as you possibly need.

after that, color it slightly on the edge of the part you've selected (either with wand tool or lasso polygonal tool). DON'T color the area u've selected directly...!! just a slightly on the edge or near it. since it's brush tool ure using, it'll like spread like real sprayed paint. and sprayed paint tend to have small amount spreaded on the area ure coloring. (look at my work on the green lantern featuring green arrow and focus on ollie's shoulder and green lantern's right thigh).

you've got ureself a blended color.

then, if you want to add a shadowy or highlighted color u can always use burn tool (it darkens the color) and dodge tool (lighten the color area).

well,uhm...
[forgive me for never leaving any replies to anyone before...]

well,
i use the tool preset on photoshop
try to blend the colors so that it'd come out naturally.

i used a polygonal lasso to select the parts that i wanted to color, then (or before that, doesn't really matter) make a new layer. colour it with either brush or paint bucket...

you'll just get a flat color (of course). but, see on the right side of ure photoshop. there're usually smaller windows that contains "navigator" , "color, etc", and "layer".

[if they're not there click on Window up on the tool bar and click "layer" - F7 for shortcut]

under the "layer" word u'll see a "Normal" word...They're blending modes_choose whatever style u feel suitable for ure coloring style. They'll appear right when u choose any blending mode...

go give it a try...[link]
