Description Rye House Gatehouse is a grade 1 listed building. What stands on the site today is all that remains of one of the first brick buildings in the country,a building of high status for its time. The quality of the brickwork including the diaper work, Oriels windows, gargoyles and 'Barley Sugar Twist' Chimney puts it in a class of its own compared to many other buildings constructed at that time.

What a great capture! I love the prominence of red in this piece. The trees and lighting lend an ominous vibe....almost like the building is in a graveyard. Very well done!

You're welcome! That's so interesting about the site. I've always wanted to take pictures at a cemetery...I know that sounds morbid but there is something so captivating about them. They have so much history.

indeed they do , some of the best examples of medieval architecture still standing, can you imagine something that has been built in this century lasting between 500 and a 1000 years, it is this test of time that gives old buildings so much history, so many people passing through the doors, peering through the windows, surely some of them must leave a little bit of themselves.

Very true! And it's crazy to think that some structures that old are still standing. There are no doubt so many stories we don't know about today that took place in these buildings. Sometimes I wish walls could talk and tell us how history really went down, haha!

Indeed it just goe's to show that our skill levels have gone backwards, it's all about saving money, the developer needs a new yaugh. Oww yes if walls could talk.

I love how the gorgeous shade of red of the sky works with the spot lights on the building itself to give it a very sinister look.

The angle of the shot only adds to the eerie feel.

Nice work.

My pleasure .. yea it might well have had paranormal things go on, for a building that is 600 years old and a site that has been used since saxon times im sure a few people have met their demise over time ... I personally have a much different view on the existence of ghosts.

I am a fan of the show Ghost Hunters. They try to debunk all this paranormal activity. I was just keeping and open mind. I to have a much different view on the paranormal. (GHOSTS) I just like old buildings that have a lot of history and stories behind it. Thats why I decided to write what I did and say some of the things I said thats all. Thanks for replying.

It is proper mate, and the scariest thing is its supposedly a true story, shit like that happens..we have just been sold it in a ignorant way by society, there is more to situations like this than what we have been led to believe.
