This is a drawing of my OC; Set from the group running through his stormy past. The animal as his reflection is his darker self, the monster within, sort of his alter ego that he has to learn to live with, otherwise he will be running forever.

Here's a scene I wrote for this:

"Why do you run, Seth?"

The question seemed ridiculous. What sort of therapist asks such a boring question? He was here for help, not to make friends. Curling his fists over his knees, he shrugged and replied absently, "It's a great way to get exercise--"

"Is it because you are afraid?" The therapist asked abruptly, looking right at him. Seth's turquoise eyes narrowed at the ground.

"I'm not afraid of anything." He said firmly.

"You ran away from home when you got hurt and never looked back. You broke off your marriage because it was getting too serious and you didn't want to hurt her. That is what you told me, right?"

Seth couldn't keep his gaze with the therapist and looked to the side, picking at a loose thread on the knee of his jeans, "Yes. But I wasn't afraid of them."

"Of course you weren't. You're afraid of yourself, and what you could become."

Seth raised an eyebrow. That couldn't possibly be true.

The therapist leaned forward and said in a calmer voice, "You are a witness to your father's horrible deeds. That scar on your face is a painful reminder of the monster lurking within you, and that is what terrifies you; that some part of yourself shares the same potential catastrophe that overcame your father. That is why you turned to drinking; to numb the fear you have of letting yourself succumb to your bitterness and guilt. You are running away from the monster you could become. What you don't realize, Seth, is that the monster is running along side you every time."

Guilt etched into Seth's face, running a hand through his hair as a coping mechanism while the reality of those words settled uncomfortably around the room and in his mind. The ferocity he had seen his father handle him and his siblings did terrify him. He blamed himself every step he took when leaving the abuse because he knew he was walking away from his mother and sister. Drinking had been the only thing to alleviate the pain tearing him apart from the inside out. He couldn't forgive himself.'

"All is not lost. Because you came for help, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Because you stopped drinking, you are that much closer to making amends. Soon, you will never, ever have to run away from yourself, or your family ever again. The monster will be tamed, and you will be free."
