Constance Badger was epic and badass in the first two books, such an ass kicking machine. Sela I felt bad for I really did I came to really like her.

As someone who is currently reading through all the Redwall books, I just love that you are drawing all the characters. And love your interpretation of them.

And to think, she's supposed to be the Dibbuns' caretaker, but she does such a good job with adults, too.

On another note, geez, this is good. I love how Sela's tongue is flicking out as she screams. Darkly humorous touch right there. Oh, the fear and intimidation!

Yes I do I just don't like the badger as a character. The artwork is amazing.

Hmm... Oke but if you don't like dadgers. then you should not write next time. because I was very shocked!

I do like badgers just not Constance I think she was in the wrong here and was over unkind with Sela.

Almost kind of feel sorry for Sela there...

I never read the books so I can't testify to that. But this scene really showed me how the Mossflower animals really have double standarts when it comes to shit like this.

Yes, often they show that they are not so nice as they would like to think they are.

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-01 20:40:36 +0000 UTC]

Which is hilarious when they claim to have the moral high ground. Kinda hard when you pull stuff like that.

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-01 20:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes they can be less than nice even towards their non-vermin friends, like certain badger who said that he carried few hundreds votes and his sword another hundred.

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-01 23:37:01 +0000 UTC]

Afraid I dont know who that badger might be...

"Lord Brocktree's eyes told the otter that he was not about to have his decision
overruled. Swinging forth his battle blade, he stuck it quivering into the ground. "Let's
be reasonable about this, friend. Let me explain the rules. One Badger Lord carries two
hundred votes and his sword carries another hundred. Agreed?""

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-02 01:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah slamming a sword in the ground is an act of pure stupidity for any person who even so much as dreams of calling themselves a swordsman, let alone a noble lord.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-02 07:27:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is. In addition, I'm not certain whether Lord Brocktree had any formal and/or legitimate authority over the people he just met?

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-02 21:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Technicly unless he is their feudal lord then no. Which is kind of funny the feudal system and the monarchy seem to always be represented negatively in Redwall. I have yet to see of a King or Lord who wasn't a borderline slave driver. Nevermind the fact that the Mossflower rodents seem to be nothing more than communists.

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-02 23:01:53 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. On the other hand, direct democracy of Guosim doesn't seem to be portrayed too positively either.

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-02 23:17:15 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea how the author of the books did his research but I suspect that he either did a very poor job at that or had a very Romantisized understanding of Medieval politics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-03 12:33:00 +0000 UTC]

Maybe he wanted to present Medieval world as he thought it should be instead of as it really was?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-03 19:50:49 +0000 UTC]

So a Mad max, style medieval world where all the feudal governments are evil and the people are helpless and two dimensional villains and lawlessness rule the country and communist comunes are the hit of the day.

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-03 22:24:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that sounds about right.

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-03 22:27:11 +0000 UTC]

So I dunno theres no structure you know? No order of knights that rides around serving justice, no benevolent old and battle weary king, no mighty castles or grand sieges just...randomness. Random medieval stuff, with cute animals.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Myrkin In reply to DragonStrider [2016-08-04 12:56:29 +0000 UTC]

Well... Redwall begun as series for kids or young adults, so that might be the main reason it was so simple and random.

DragonStrider In reply to Myrkin [2016-08-04 19:57:18 +0000 UTC]

I suppose hence why I find alot of things that prevent me from getting into it.

I'd understand if they were a nobility but they are monks. And incredibly racist towards predatory species.

I fully agree. being a series as formidable as it is, such a cliche is a shame. And I am partial to Sela.

Yeah a crime is a crime but I doubt her son tryed to kill that mouse he hit over the head. Even real Medieval justice was more just than what Redwall pulled from under it's tail.

BTW, you reminded me of something: Remember all the tributes done when Mr Jacques died? As far as I remember, all had Martin, Basil, Constance... but none had Cluny or Badrang or Gabool... they were his characters as well, they had all the right to be in the tributes.

I am now in a small piece of fanfiction, where my character and his family (Captain Langsdorff Mink, Commander of the Visonian submarine SMS Swordfish) meets the actors that portrait the Redwall characters in the tv show He just took his wife, maid and sons to tour the filmation set... and ends as extra in two episodes!

As I stated I am not a book reader and I dont really know the community's responce. I am a lover of history especially medieval and  anthropomorphic characters and Redwall just hits more negatives than possitives with me sadly.

The first one I read was, precisely, Martin the Warrior: I swear that,at the end of the book (and the final battle) I ahd all my hair standing, I was hororized by such a butchery and never again touched a Jacques book till I got Mariel. And I kept saying: "If Mariel or Rosie dies, I'll NOT continue reading!"

DragonStrider In reply to springheel [2016-08-03 22:27:49 +0000 UTC]

Well I guess it has its impact but I failed to find the books in my native language and they are out of print in English so I really dont want to hassle with an Amazon order that takes weeks.

Well, I think I have the answer for you: www.bookzz.org They have all - or almost all- the collection in English, FREE.

Inly condition is not to download more than six books daily (or 6 plus other 16 if you register)

Ah, for the record, regarding Redwall kind of literature, I prefer the Spellsinger series.
