I've only been to Kyoto during the day. Now I feel like I have to reserve a trip to just see the nightlife.

You should! It's really cool at night. I especially enjoyed exploring Gion.


Funny story actually . . . While doing just that in our rented kimono I tripped on an errant cobblestone and face planted directly into my sister's butt . . . On a crowded street. In front of a group of hosts. It was hilarious, if a little mortifying.
