Personality: Hotaru is a bit brusque for a bushi, and many of his peers consider him childish or unrefined. Although his family have been samurai for generations, he harbors a secret love for shoudo and poetry. Easy to embarrass and easier to offend, Hotaru can be difficult to get along with, but his strong passions and rigid training make him a powerful ally. He is reluctant to speak about his family, as he feels that nothing he does will ever erase his bad blood in their eyes, and it is a constant source of shame for him.

History: Hotaru's family have been the first line of defense in Firefield village for generations. Their bloodline is carefully controlled through arranged marriages to generate the most powerful warriors possible. Hotaru himself however, is the result of an indiscretion on the part of his mother, and many in the village are quick to point to this as the source of his lack of manners and general disdain for the constrictions of the Samurai class. Hotaru's name (meaning firefly) comes from the will 'o the wisps which have followed him around since birth.

Held Item: although he is not permitted to use his family's ancestral sword due to his impure heritage, his father wouldn't send his son into battle unarmed. He carries with him the sword Kazanken (Volcano Blade), which increases the power of fire-type moves in battle.
