Description The darkness rolls from east to west,
Pursues its frightened, burning prey
That hides beneath the towns and hills
'Till darkness passes into day.

In June, up north, the light's ahead.
The darkness shrinks. They prey's more bold.
Then night begins to lengthen there,
And sunlight falters in the cold.

So back and forth with time they go,
Like rival shepherds herding sheep.
We're roused, we work, then slumber more,
Until we're brought our final sleep.
