Exactly. With the exception of the fight with King Round, it does not matter if you try to act or kill the enemies. Nothing changes aside from the story no longer making sense.

I still find it really bizarre the radical new direction the game took. It doesn't make the game bad, but it really seems contradictory to the first game. Of course, for all we know, it's just a demo for a much larger game (meaning Toby may not have had time to code in a Genocide Route). I don't claim to know anything though.

So there really isn't continuity from any ending of UnderTale in any way. I guess the fans convinced Toby to make his own AU to avoid having to potentially taint the continuity of the original. (I'm joking. I've seen the tweets where Toby mentions working on concepts in the game back in 2014 and 2015.) Thanks for sharing this by the way.
