Description ***Edit: Skull Kid is not for sale and I am not taking commissions at this time! Sorry!

***Edit 2: Thanks so much for the DD and for all the lovely comments and favs!

***Edit 3: Sorry, but I don't have a pattern for Skull Kid!  He was done free-hand because the directions were too complex to write out.  The only patterns I have are available in the "Patterns" folder of my gallery.

"You've met with a terrible fate haven't you?" -Happy mask salesman

Skull Kid is approximately 18" tall, several inches taller with the hat

So, this is my pride and joy that I've been working on for a few weeks, many long hours a day. He does have wire support because I wanted him to be poseable, including his darn fingers. His mask is also removable! The mask details and Skull Kid's face are needle-felted because I wanted them to REALLY stand out. The face is one of the more important things to me, which is why I usually make eyes and such out of felt, or as of late, needle-felting. And plus I can't embroider.. Am I the only one who has problems controlling where the thread stays in crocheted works?? ._. Whatever the case, I seem to suck at embroidering, while needle-felting makes me happy because the results are much better for me.

The Legend of Zelda series has got to be my favorite game series of all time. I've been intending to make some of the characters from the games, but I waited it out because I wanted to improve my crocheting skills before giving it a shot. Definitely have to do justice to the characters of the greatest series ever! As I've said before, I chose to make Skull Kid first because:

1. He doesn't have a human face, which I'm not quite ready to try yet, but I still get to ease into making something with a humanoid form
2. Majora's mask is insanely cool

I hope you guys like how he turned out! I definitely gave it my best effort!

Oh my god this is amazinggg~ I actually have a question. Do you recall how to make the shoes? I'm trying to learn how to crochet shoes for my sonic. I'm having a bit of trouble since his shoes are pointy.

Bubblegm74 [2015-01-26 17:15:42 +0000 UTC]

Question? How were you able to make the tips of the hat flare out because they seem to defy gravity? Did you put wire around the edges and single crochet around the wire to cover it? I'm trying to crochet Skull Kid and was just wanting pointers when it comes to his hat! Thanks for sharing your creations with us!

aphid777 In reply to Bubblegm74 [2015-01-31 18:56:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you guessed it! I had to put wire around the edges and cover it with stitches.

Bubblegm74 In reply to aphid777 [2015-02-03 04:56:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the confirmation! Did you put wire on the long strands coming out of the hat too, or do you lightly pack it with stuffing? Sorry for the multiple questions!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

aphid777 In reply to Bubblegm74 [2015-03-08 17:15:13 +0000 UTC]

I just add wire coming out of the hat too. The strips off the hat are single-layered so no stuffing involved

I don't think I'll be able to put up patterns for complex dolls like these I ended up winging a lot of parts and the shaping often was done by how I put the pieces together. Sorry about that! I'm glad you like my work though!

Well that's fine toos! XD Not gonna pressure or anythings XD I just really loves stuff likes that. I bets it tooks forevers, with all the small bits and all! It must have been tedious sewing it all together XD

I have to try and make one of these now. I probably don't have anywhere near the skills necessary to wing a pattern that complex, but this is too awesome not to try.

Love your work.  What size hook and yarn did you use.  Going to try my hand at it.  Son asked me to make one.  Maybe mixed media.  Crochet, felt and clay will let you know.

Thank you!!  I used sizes E and F hooks throughout the work.  I'll be looking forward to seeing yours!
