NOTE: On the left is my first attempt at Zuko (back in 2007), right is a new version I made in 2014.

Zuko is the first born son of Fire Lord Ozai. After unintentionally insulting his father and refusing to duel him, he was scarred for life on the left side of his face (the side that we can see here). After that, he was banished from the Fire Nation. Desperately trying to regain his honor and the approval of his father, he tries to seek out the Avatar. In the first season of the series (on which I based my sprite), he runs around the world, always following the Avatar, but he never managed to capture him. In the later seasons Zuko learns that his father is an evil man and eventually he teams up with Team Avatar to bring his father to justice. He has a different haircut in the later seasons, but I thought this to be more original. Also, Zuko is the other of only two characters known to still be alive in the Avatar sequel, 'Legend of Korra'.
As to why I made a new sprite: Just look at the old one. It's rubbish! His outfit is wrong, the fire daggers look silly and nothing like what he used in the series, his scar is shaded darker to the outside, instead of to the middle... It's just not good! In the new sprite he wears the right armor, his head and hair looks better and he uses a fireball he conjured from his hand. Or, if you think it looks more like that, his hand's on fire.
