As a grayscale piece this is lovely. The many different shades of light and dark look wonderful.
The line of light and dark dividing his face makes this a less wonderful portrait. I know this was just a quick capture, but the shadow across half the face draws attention from his eyes and lips, emphasizing the brighter part - the cheek, which is featureless.
It's a great study of depth and texture thoguh.
