Thank you! It is a wonderful place. I have done this trip many times (it is the ferry between the North and South Islands). It never gets old.

This area should be good for beacon hunting.

Most likely I leave that to others. Β

Once I settle down in New Zealand, I have plans to go all over New Zealand and photograph all the minor beacons, although the ones I am going to do first are the ones on my top priority list: namely Tryphena Point, Honeycomb, The beacons of Great Barrier Island, Cape KariKari, Port Charles, and Table Cape.

That will get you around to seeing places that most Kiwis don't see; good plan. Β

Thanks for the encouragement. This "Honeycomb" place, I have no idea why anyone would call it that. As far as I know, it's somewhere near Napier.Β

If its the one... It is actually well south of Napier. You would get there via Martinborough, which is a beautiful wine making area in the Wairarapa. Well worth a visit if you're passing between Wellington and Napier. Not cheap though.

I just had a look, yes it is the one. There are remains of an old beacon upon the rock, and another photo possibly shows the new beacon. The Honeycomb Beacon was one of the few NZ Minor Lights that bothered me immensely.Β
