Griffin Morris

There was no real thought put into it! Griffin was originally just made to be an asshole side character for one of my stories so I wasn’t putting a ton of effort into his name (... n-not that I have ever actually put that much effort into the names of characters I do plan to be important, but uh. LOL). I think I just randomly chose his first and last name from lists of names I liked / wanted to give to characters eventually, thought it sounded alright together, and went with it! I do kinda wish I would’ve changed it up a bit for Arcem Alva / made it more fitting to where he was born, but I wasn’t thinking about it while applying and feel it’s probably a little too late now ;;

Kamon Intira

Lmao uh, I went on behindthename.com, and researched names from the areas Estraude was based on (specifically India, Thailand, and Indonesia I think?), and made a list before narrowing it down! I couldn’t decide between Kamon and Intira, so I just made Intira her surname lol.

Atticus Leland

I don't remember exactly how I came up with his name. I think Atticus I chose because I had been fond of the name for a while, and it was a fittingly innocent-sounding name. Plus it had the bonus of having a cute nickname haha. For Leland I think I probably found it in a list of surnames somewhere or something, I'm not sure. It really went over my head how ironic it is until almost six months ago when I realized how similar it was to the Ley Wilds in Cantor lol. It's ended up being really ironic and fitting for him, and I swear it was a coincidence!

Daniel Arkmenetide - I don't remember actually giving this too much thought, but it was probably chosen to make him sound vaguely like he stepped out of a My First Bible Stories book... I think the idea was to start with a Nice Normal Christian first name (could belong to your local Jehovah's Witness) and cap it with a surname that sounds like some sort of biblical ancient--

Tom - I wanted him to have the most boring human-esque name possible and that was, to me at the time, Tom

Ama Nightingale - Ama means 'heaven / sky' - not a common name afaik but since Song-Lu is so Generic Asian, I wanted a name that sounds like it could come from multiple asian languages/dialects. Nightingale is a nod to the hc that she'd be a good singer if she had an entire throat.

Sig / Fab / Artur - Artur is apparently derived from 'bear' and I was making up Koben at the time so I went Full Obvious. Fabian and Sigmund were arbitrary picks from behindthename. I liked Sigmund marginally better as a name so it went to the not-dead brother, and the Fabio association almost definitely influenced Fabian's personality :^) Roenach is because I, who am very much not German, was at the time thinking of calling Koben city Roenberg but sky told me that sounded extremely dorky... so I hacked it into a surname instead... I'm not sure I still agree with past me's decision to do the latter but this is the bed I made myself--

Triss Feloria - I saw a Redwall book in the library called Triss and for some reason remembered it (I have never read it). Feloria was just invented to sound pretentiously elfy-pretty--

Tory Braid - Tory is from a Mythbusters host, and Braid is from a game numbers had recently given me but I never got far in (sorry numbers)

Odvar Odvarssen - There was a guy at a place I worked at with this name pattern and I really liked it, so I picked a big-guy sounding nordic name and did that to it

Every other name has either been made up or picked from name websites just to sound right... followed by a google check to make sure it isn't already something weird (a real lesson learnt)

I have a very...random process about naming characters. I usually have a lot of names saved up which I think have a pretty sound to them and when I create characters, I just assign from that list and mix them further up according to the characters' (implied) ethnicity/birth place & circumstances. I like it when both meaning and 'feeling' of the name fit and describe the character.

Logan Sigmund Doherty Logan and Lir were created way before for a group where they were nobles in a steampunky England inspired nation. Logan’s both an old Irish name and also one given to like…frat boy characters, which I thought very fitting lol. I added in a very German middle name to fit the Koben setting better. I wanted to go for Siegfried first, after a mythological Germanic dragon slayer type of character, but it didn’t ring well so I went for the similar Sigmund without realizing that was the name of the Koben prince because I’m a doofus. They’re name pals now, sorry Streets.

Lir Doherty Of Shakespearean origin, after King Lear, but also Prince Lir from The Last Unicorn. Evokes a ‘royal’ connotation. It’s also a rather feminine and fragile sounding male name imo, which fits him. Doherty was also of Irish origin and just rang well and sounded posh.

Ludovika Waryslav Of Bohemian origin. I wanted the name to scream ‘I’m from a Slav/Germanic border!!’. Ludovika is the feminine form of Ludwig, and I feel like it sounds both very masculine and sorta…girly and cute because of the diminutive ending? I feel like it fits her very well.

Luke Dearie Wanted a contrast between a very masculine first name and soft, feminine last name. First name was supposed to be quite short and ordinary too. Bonus points for Evangelical connotations now that he’s a priest in AA haha.

Muireadhach “Murdoch” Bodekin I wanted an uncommon and somewhat harsh sounding Celtic name, since he’s from Iadlain. I happened to rewatch Titanic around that time and took it from there. The last name I just googled anglophone last names and took one that sounded a little…peasanty? A little like ‘bumpkin’ lol. It means ‘dagger’ though, which alluded nicely to him being thief class. I feel like his name has a ‘sharp’ feeling to it.

Euphemia Beuchene Wanted a name which sounded very ethereal and pretty, never watched Code Guess but knew one of the characters was named that so stole it from there. For the last name I just wanted something French, bonus points for ‘beau’ being in there. Name feels ‘soft’ and ‘powdery’.

Kreszenzia Buckholtz (kres-ZEN-zee-ah buck-HOLTZ)

Originally, her name was Kreszentia, which is a German name means to grow or thrive. It felt on the more fantasy edge, while not being too outlandish, and I liked the meaning as she was very much meant to be a nurturing and plant-focused character. Also, Zenzi is a really cute nickname. The only reason it is spelt different is because I mixed it up on her app and didn't figure out I technically spelled it wrong for like a year. However, I like the pronunciation with 'zee-ah' better than 'tee-ah' anyways.

Buckholtz was more because Zenzi's father was from Koben. I wanted a more noble-esque kind of name and not one that would be seen in Iadlain usually. Why this name in particular, I don't remember. I think I just liked it well enough haha.

Naevys Aeraviel: recycled character, I changed her name because it didn't feel elvish enough. Her current name is heavily influence by Zelda because I had just finished playing the ocarina of time and has no meaning of its own. The old name was "Nadia" which means hope or announcer depending on cultures. A big thanks to fantasy name generators for the family name

Yue Ling Qiu: or Qiu Yue Ling to be more accurate. Her name was picked by a close friend of mine. I don't remember what the Chinese character for her family name means, but those she picked for Yue Ling (月铃) are to mean moon bell.

Almha Mag Aoidh: probably the name I put the most thought in for. I wanted one that would illustrated how happy and full of life she is while also being gaelic or celtic in origin. I first thought of "Alma" which translated to mean someone that "feeds one's soul" or "lifts the spirit". Incidentally it is also a Celtic name which means "loving, good". I ended up settling for the Gaelic spelling "Almha" because the anglicized version of that name would be "Alva", which sounded like a fun coincidence.
Her family name is Irish and simply means "fire".

Phéarel Hadreth (Silver): For the name Phéarel I just added a bunch of letters and accents to the name 'pearl'- I wanted to reference the white of her hair and also because while designing/drawing her initially I constantly listened to the song 'Pearl of the Stars' from Coheed&Cambria, so the allure to a pearl stuck with me for her. Hadreth means sadly nothing, as I chose it from a random generator and I liked the sound of it and thought it would sound good in combination with having it be a name for a leatherworkshop. The 'Codename' Silver is a reference for her silvery eyes (and her silvery Sais), just to be something 'edgy' and 'cool' and mysterious

Beatrice Cielos aka Heaven: Originally her name was just a play of words, naming a character literally Heaven Sky. For AA I adapted Heaven as her alias which she chose herself and as a provocation towards Aurea and the 'Heavens'. For Beatrice there is sadly also not too much of a meaning since I really like this name. It is the Italian variant of the french name Béatrice, which means 'she who brings happiness/blessed', wanted something that sounds poetic and harmonic. Cielos is derived from the word 'cielo', which means sky in Italian to reference the original pun name.

Méidh Learrach I wasn't sure what her name should be and in some dark website I found the name Méidh which translates to 'May Water' in scottish/gaelic, but ..... now I am not sure this is true anymore XD since various other translators, translate this name in different things like prune, balance or installment XD (I still like to believe it means May Water XD). Learrach is derived from the word 'earrach', which means spring in scottish, but since I wanted an L sound, I just added an L in front of it heeeeeeh

*cracks knuckles* Mmkay here we go

Lazaruz Calisto - Definitely was going more for a "what's the most magic-ey sounding Spanish originating name I could use for this man" when I first thought up of his name, though I did like the significance of the first name's meaning to keep it since this group does surround itself with the theme of Gods in the plot (it means "God has helped"). The spelling though was a change I did since there was already a Lazarus in the group at the time and I didn't want to cause too much confusion by sharing similar names.

Nathaniel Grene - Admittedly the Nathan in his name was actually adopted from one of my bro's characters who was a police cop in his story, and since I was going military for Neil, it felt like an appropriate call back to that. He ended up adopting the Neil nickname though because there was already another Nathan/Nate in the group (again LOL). Grene was more a play on the word Green since I wanted it to be a family trait to have very distinctly colored green eyes. Ironically though both he and Lazaruz share similar origins in name meanings ("God has given") as I intended for the two to have some overall rivalry to happen in the long run, but before then I really want to retcon a couple of things about this guy because he needs a thorough rewrite in a couple of places 8'I

Sullivan Bardwell - Sully was a port from another group, so his name carries more of a name appropriate to where he was first made. Admittedly my one regret, which I was thinking about doing but did not push through with, was changing the spelling of Sully's name so he'd fit more with the Valsk aesthetic overall. Definitely was more of a "this name sounds good" thing over all with him since I wanted a very heavy sounding name to fit his stature. And yes, I am very aware his first name is a common surname LMAO

Guru - Was going for a wise man aesthetic when choosing his oriad name. Ended up picking this one because it worked well with Grandpa akdjakjl-

Alma Morrisen - Alma's maternal side of the family took inspiration from gypsies since Emi did suggest it at some point during her creation process. From there I tried to research baby names that were common among gypsies. Alma happened to also have a Spanish counterpart, so it fit both her parental city origins. Morrisen though was just a play on Morrison. Tried to give it a more magic sound similar to how Calisto has a very magic sound to it to me.

Cristen (Halvorsen) Bardwell - Actually did her right by making her maiden name fit Valsk more LMAO. I remember going through a list of Scandinavian names before I narrowed it down to what she has now. Can't seem to remember much about how her name process went besides me liking the sound of Cristen the most hmmmmm.

Morrigan Caomhánach - Again, went through a list of names appropriate to Iadlain's influences to get to this one. Morrigan was actually going to have another last name that sounded like ass crack but I unfortunately lost it in the chat I first logged it at because of how odd the spelling was LOL. The new last name though sounded really cool to me in that it was similar to "Covenant" or the witches Coven, and Iadlain's overall magic preference further made it feel appropriate to her family Mage BG. Chose her first name mostly to match up in sound to the given name of her twin, Kerrigan (and I honestly had been wanting to use the name Morrigan for one of my OCs for a while now haha).

BONUS: Kamilo Bardwell - Someone in chat actually suggested this name, and since it had a latin origin and meaning, IC wise it felt appropriate to make it a cantish woman who suggested the name to Cristen since he was born in Cantor. Thank you to whomever suggested this name! I'm sorry I can't remember who gave it specifically //wEEPS//

Alek: In my original plans for him he was going to be helvarg in Valsk so he had the Ukrainian/Russian name Oleksandr, but my thirst for the Koben uniforms won out and his name was changed to Alexander. Lauschten was something I heard in the middle of a show I wasn’t paying attention to and liked the sound of 💦 lausch in German translates to “to listen” apparently!

Noah: Up until his app art was finished he was a wood elf with the last name Taran but I played around with his colours and got very attached to how he looked as a dark elf. His entire bio changed and I think I just mashed up sounds to get to Thelrin, and I just liked the name Noah—

For both my OC's names I went with Norwegian and Welsh names that had a fantasy feel to them (mythology was one of the places I looked).

Eir Talfryn: Eir comes from Norse mythology/Norwegian name meaning "Mercy". However she doesn't have much to do with healing and medicine like the goddess of the same name.
Lleu Talfryn: Lleu comes from a name in welsh mythology meaning "Light /Shine/ Shining one" (depending on where you look) Cause he takes more after his light elf side.

For the both of them, their last name, Talfryn, is a welsh name that means "high hill"

Caleb Lir Nereus: Lir and Nereus are names of deities in relation with the sea. Caleb is just a name I really liked and used for my past OCs but it ended up meaning "faithful" and fits well with Caleb's whole theme

Nora o Fairtheor: Fairtheoir means sentry/sentinel in Irish. I came across Nora on a baby naming site when I was trying to come up with a first name for her LOL and it just sounded good when paired with her family name

Blue: I knew my Oriad would be a pretty simple-minded/airheaded person so I wanted a name to match that personality. Along with her backstory, I thought something a kid would come up with was the best choice... hence Blue... bc shes blue. LOL

(Do I rly... wanna do all of mine...... ok here we go gjkdg)

Cassair ó Faoláin - I used an Irish name site with the one criteria that I had to be able to type his first name without copypasting acute accents LOL Cassair means 'curly-haired' (thus his design) and Faoláin comes from 'wolf' (since I figured the ruling family's name would have origins tied to Iadlain's motifs).

Javed Datuvahaya - Another name site for Javed, and I think I found a list of archaic Indian surnames somewhere and rly liked the sound of Datuvahaya - I wanted something that looks intimidatingly long at a glance but is actually rly easy to say.

Arlengwyn Aethril - I completely made up this name for maximum fantasy flair(TM) LOL I wanted her nickname to be Gwen but her real name to be pretentious elf fancy, so I mashed around sounds until I landed on something I liked.

Jin - I wanted a short, punchy and very ordinary name for her. Jin means 'gold' in Chinese, which seemed to me like the kind of generically auspicious name you'd give to a kid you gotta name in 2 minutes.

Giovan Lucilius - Giovan is a mash of Giovanni (a nice ordinary Italian name, I thought) and Jovian (derived from 'Jupiter', sounded cool and powerful to me). Lucilius comes from Latin for 'light', which I thought suited the Kingdom's royal familiy. I made up Silvan just to match the sound of Giovan, and I wanted Vinicio to share the letter 'v' theme so I pulled one from a name site.

Celestina Rojas - I wanted her first name to sound beautiful in a really not-subtle way - the kind of name the bitchy popular girl in YA novels would have LOL. Rojas is Spanish for 'red' and I liked that it was fairly short, for balance.

Marise, Sunan, Ana and Lainie just came from culture-matching name sites and I liked the sounds. Fiora is an alteration of Flora ('flower'). Diarmit is another way to spell Diarmaid, which is a very common name to suit his commoner-ness. Rowan is just a name I've liked since childhood (from the book series Rowan of Rin, about a quiet but insightful boy) and felt appropriate. Fiachna means 'raven' bc all my Iadlish game NPCs are themed after crows (and then I played myself by making them all apped characters). And Clover has the most valid name origin of all, bc he was found in a patch of clovers!

The majority of them I had a fixed process. So I will code them so i don't have to repeat that part too much.

*the usual*= feeling a certain starting letter, hopping onto Behind the Names, browse names within their cultural inspiration

Airez
Carry-over character from before. I almost changed his name if I went with my original plan of kicking him to Kingdom instead in Song-lu. The ai part uses the mandarin character that refers to the whiteness of snow, since he is a winter child.

Claretta
*the usual* then I just went full-on "which sounds the most like her and not taken yet" for her.

Ernest
*the usual* I mean.... Ernest means ernest.

Navin
*the usual* Was really liking the meaning behind the name and how it would have matched up to something that his mom would have wanted to name her child to be: new, to symbolize her desire of starting a new life.

Melanie
Ok this one actually was the most random one. I had this one terrible classmate who I had to work on a group project before. Her name was along the lines of similar sound and it left a strong impression on me. I figured out Mel's personality first, so naturally, those few sounds and letters just came into my head.

its been 20 year since i made some of these characters,,,,, also this turned out longer than intended uh.

Tilia Belaire : while making Tilia she was suppose to be a rehash of Cecile who was named Cecilia before from a previous group. But the more i developed her the more she differed from her source material so decided to just make her  a completely different character. Combined the name Cecilia and Thalia (which meant to blossom cause florist #Original ) to make Tilia. Her last name was suppose to be Blair, but... it sounded to modern/ american so- googled alternatives that sounded close.

Audrey Lockwood: wanted a name that was elegant for her, but not pretentious (if that makes any sense--) and the first person i thought of was Audrey Hepburn;;;; She was from a previous rp group too, but her last name was Parker- so I had to change it to something,,, else,,,, Lockwood sounded like a nobles last name so plucks it-

Sarifee Filatov-Laemiril: I needed something that was close to her real name, and I read somewhere 'Sarifee' meant sacrifice so picks this mellow dramatic name for her. Her last name was literal mish-mashes of what (I think)  an elf name would be. Filatov does have russian ties though, I think I decided on that since I made her stay in Belport (even tho she was from Nisalvini,,, A+ planning)

Virsche Champfleur: she was a character i made from an MMORPG, and i wasnt sure how i decided on her name- but I knew i based it off from either Vivian or Vivaldi. Her last name I  googled "french last names",,,

Yunaly Eilnorin: I literally googled elf names-- and saw an elf name generator-- it landed on Yunalesca, but there was already someone in AA named after that so changed it to Yunaly instead (which worked out better tbh)

Cecile Ambrosios: Was originally Cecilia,,, but I already had Tilia and having their names rhymed bothered me LOL Ambrosios is based from "Ambrosia"

looking at all these together it is very glaring that i like campy obnoxious names because i refuse to afford my OCs subtlety or kindness

Gigi (Gisal Emiline Gill'losa) - tbh just always wanted an OC named gisele bc im so tickled by how pretty and feminine it is so. once again. i tapped into scottish gaelic alphabet and wow! it SHOULD actually be pronounced with a hard g as in gizzard but just ignore that. it's GISeLLE LiKE tHe BalLeT
i didn't kno but giselle actually means prisoner which turned out to be kind of relevant to her chara arc LOL

gill'losa is from a scottish surname website...i liked the apostrophe and 'gill' bc the family's landmark is a lake....the kind with fish in it....fish with gi

her nickname was given to her by her mother!

Ponzi (Ruari Peshighfhco) - from their original group their name was Pomeroy Pacifico(tm) which is supposed to sound like a big obnoxious Brand and they were a scammer so....Ponzi...like...u kno

in AA I tried 2 translate their name (pomeroy --> roy --> ruari) to irish as best i could with the help of wikipedia and i used the power of knowledge to shove in as many extraneous letters as i could...having a v extra name is very Ponzi after all.... in AA they picked Ponzi as an ambiguous stage name!! so when theyre introduced as ponzi their last name shouldn't actually follow it. the ol one namer

a Tidbit: playing into ALL the cliches it makes them v soft when u call them ruari

Oryad - he was named like a pokemon and with the power of phonetic spelling this is what i am left with

Rozene - as she is an older oc she has a pretty french name snatched from baby website with painfully obvious design cues

Hajime - haji was originally from a yankee rp group and there rly wasn't a good scottish equivalent. i swear i didnt leave it bc i am a big mary sue weeblet

Bearchan (Cailean Solas Bearchan Gill'losa) - name funny and painfully ironic............nobles are the perfect excuse to tack on all the other names u liked for the chara

Ilham Zahir Rostami
Admittedly I was trying to find something that would be relatively normal in canon but also highkey realising that Rostami is the name of a real place but Zahir means "helper, supporter" or in some cases "to shine, radiate" and Ilham (which I funny enough realised is more feminine in nature) which means "inspiration" or "muse". I also just liked how the two put together felt strong and I think it reflects on how he's a very soft person and yet...masculine but also...not conforming gender stereotypes onto names /// (but also big dummy me)//

Veil
Veil was originally named Vivi, quickly changed to avoid character problems. But honestly I love Veil more, it came after some thought through looking at Veil's design. I wanted something that still started with an unusual letter but Veil just worked cuz...the light draping them seemed very fitting.

Stitches (Iarlaith Ó Ciardha)
 - Named after a lovely one-eyed stray that snuck into our house, hid under our bed and bit me

Gaelic for the pronunciation/cadence; letter shapes mimic his (NDC) name. Ó Ciardha is Iadlish-Relan grade Edgy™ in its darkness.

Eoghan Elwynne (Ó Broin) - Gaelic of Owen O'Byrne (MAGE), which in turn was chosen for ease off the tongue. Compensated for the un-regional spelling with ye old family roots across the sea lol.

Elwynne's in this case after Æðelwine, his hometown I never touched back on because I'm tiny brain

Ailbhennis Malaiynur - Ailbhe (irish) - white/bright, Ennis - island

Malai (thai) - flower garland, Aynur (turkic) - moonlight. Because I gotta poetically murder words and refer to their DARKIE HALFBLOODedness in their NAME as if it weren't OBVIOUS even though it's their wood mom's surname uhhh

Karlena [Oilean] (island) - a variety of white potato. Their parents' names are Karlena and Dominic Oilean.

Ailbhennis (white, island)  is therefore by a reach of the mind a white potato, which is what they were in MAGE as Owen's familiar, so these two are x-times removed cousins here. Of course this nonsense makes sense

Liam Maël - OU name plus mirror image for the ~*~flow~*~ (and his OU theme's all about looking at reflections of who you are.. not...)

The meanings are like protector/prince and that's kinda cute in that he's a tryhard at being both.

Leith Aurélien - OU name plus after a roman emperor, otherwise means golden (but alas he is not, I just wanted an -ien ending)

Laverne - OU name, and prior group (SKlN) his name/tarot was Death, which is about accepting changes in life (or conversely denial).

Laverne's a green/tree/springlike name, so there's the fun connotations of spring after death (winter).

Rosie (Rhodeia Ennosid) - Roha [pure/soul] ; Rhodeia - After greece's rhodes island and because I needed a name starting with 'Ro'

Ennosid - after an epithet of Poseidon (Ennosigaios/Ennosidas)

Rosie - nickname, and as she is a gb of my OC for GO (Posie for Poseidon)... Rosie posies.

Aoibhínneves Ó Ciardha - OU name is Aubrey Yvonne Nieves; Aoibhínneves is pronounced eeveneevs, close enough to how Yvonne Nieves sounds. And funnily Aoibhín is related to beauty, weedy is terribly Not

Lylas' name was made up after mashing around the words Lillies n Lilac LMFAO. Maybe it's a real name somewhere (or Is Now), but I definitely wanted to do a dumb pun to lighten him up cos he wasn't nearly as goofy originally. (Lie less mr lylas) Middle n last came off a scottish names site that fit roughly with the pun phonetically. Fun fact! His placeholder name was Ode and is where his singing comes from!

Charis I picked similarly, but from another names site cos I wanted all three names to be tied to Greece, but the thought process was like, ("Awwwww so char-is like cherish? That'd be good for the kinda oc I wanna m-- wait 'Car-is'. w... WEFJFDKS--") I think her placeholder name was something like Punchy. Hence, (motions at her).

All 12 chara here we g- /HIT

The short of it is that most of my characters are recycled from old RP groups or personal stories and I just modified their names slightly so they were vaguely similar (some of them are a stretch CACKLES), I enjoy baby name dictionaries.

- Lorelei Glaisyer: from Lorelei Regner (MAGE), Glaisyer is a French name for glassmaker which referenced her previous group.

- Esme O'Suileabhan: from Emery (NDC), I wanted to retain his nickname "Em", and just tossed a generic Gaelic last name /HIT

Teagan Riley: from Temperance (SK1N), ... I just looked for Irish names that started with T, and Irish surnames that started with R for TempeRance .... : D

Marischal Maxwell: from Mar (NDC), wanted to retain his name as a nickname and I think alliteration is fun.

Alison Mac Dhuibhinse: from Lissa (NDC), ... I just looked for names which could derive "Lissa" as a nickname, and tossed a random last name that sounded decent when I got tired of research LMFDGHBJ

Francoise Lachance: from Fen (HER0), whose actual name is Francis. Lachance because I thought such a bright sounding name would be funny with his contrary personality /HIT

Daelan Leugers Voegelin: from Dorian Vicari (LOX), ... honestly I just slapped a name together that sounded kind of rich and pretentious enough but also kind of similar. Jazz hands. Not that Dae is pretentious, it's funny that such a sof baby has a big name see--

Lilian Panagakis: from Pygmalion (GO), PygmaLION > LiLIAN ... yeah I'm creative, Greek last name starting with a P to reference Pygmalion.

The kids who are actually unique to AA or have completely different names:

Aleksi Laurila: (Original/NDC) His original/canon name is Jian, but that was always meant to be a pseudonym so he was technically unnamed for many years. His nationality is Finnish, so I poked around for Finnish names that would suit : Dc ... "Laurila" is a name meaning "Lauri's place", which I thought would add irony to the fact that Aleksi doesn't have a place to call his home in AA.

Camille Delacroix: I've just always liked the name "Camille" for a boy, so I slapped it onto my side character's younger brother and got attached /HIT

Ninny: from ninebark, the plant their design is based on. I originally had their name as Niney but it devolved into Ninny in my head .. sorry baby HFBGJHDFG

Helena Apostolos: ... honestly I was in such a mad rush to get Helena together I don't even remember my brainstorming process SHDFGBJDFHGJ "Greek name Greek name is this Greek enough yeah sure let's go for i-"

ALEKSI DOES HAVE A PLACE TO CALL HOME-- HIS HOME IS WHEREVER THERE'S A CRAZY CRAB LADY---//killed

his home is in my arms,,

Was 'Jian' used with a specific meaning? All I can think of is the sword //think..  how edgy

I think Ninny's name story is so cute... Helena's whole name is just Peak Greek LMAO

I love all of these, thanks for sharing hehHE

TICKLES TEAR HE HAS YET TO REALIZE HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS /pepas .....

"Jian"(鹣) references the mythical bird in Chinese myth! They each have only one eye and one wing, and so two complete each other like soulmates-- he had a partner in his original story who also had an eye injury/missing leg to match his own missing eye and arm :3c ... Ceras can be his half in AA-verse- /HIT

Rohayu is a combination of two names ‘Rohana’ and ‘Rahayu’ although taking her name taken apart into halves it becomes something that means ‘demure spirit’, something she certainly isn’t..... Shir-Del is the persian name for lionheart, for the loyal Tusar blood in her

Sergei is a variation of his beta version Sergio and honestly because it sounded cool and manly- Farrouk is a variation of the arabic name Faruq meaning ‘person who knows right from wrong’ to represent the new man he became once he defected

Quentin is a recycled name I adore and Dr. Q at the time makes a pretty cool nickname— Felaern is a fancy surname from an elf generator and mashed it with Lefroy (another fancy name) to make an even fancier surname for that brief nobility period of his life

Lorenzo is a cool name I’ve been wanting to give LOL.... Lorenzo Arlandis becomes both thematically appropriate for an experienced elf and it sounds cool, it’s a noble name that I wanted it to be given to someone who’s the complete opposite or undeserving

Bran for the hair he grows... and I was trying to come up with a human sounding that also works for a tiny tree son

Ceras is taken from the star Cerastes. It's actually a triple star system in the Monoceros (unicorn) constellation.

Unlike Atria's reasoning for having star names, Ceras's parents were navigators at sea and used to having stars to guide them. Similarly Ceras used them on her travels, and often they were her only company, the only reminder that there was more to life than the immediate darkness around her (wow this sounds so dramatic bear with me). I think it was given to her by her parents to pass on their traveling and adventurous spirit, someone who is always out there and cannot be grounded to anything. In meta, one of the reasons I gave it to Ceras because she is rather unremarkable, not anyone outstanding or particularly important, just another among many; but stars are lonely and beautiful, and in their immediate surroundings they cannot see that they are actually not alone in the sky at all.

Ciaran is a Scottish name, Gaelic for 'little dark one'. It is pronounced more like 'Kieran'. Ya gotta say it in thicc scott

Ciaran is a name he chose for himself when becoming an assassin.. Its meaning can sound vague and almost impersonal, yet at the same time it sounds somewhat endearing. He is a lonely person who wants to shrink into himself and hide away after everything, but in the end he just wants to be loved and accepted. I think it fits him more than he realizes.

Adhara Atria Nashira... Adhara is a star in the Canis Major constellation, second brightest to Sirius. Atria is the brightest star in the constellation Triangulum Australe. Nashira is a giant star in the Capricornus constellation. I think it's fitting she goes by just Atria because it is the brightest in its constellation. Adhara is a fitting name too, for all of her insecurities and desire to strive beyond being second to anyone or anything. And of course, Nashira, being a giant star, suits her will to be larger than life, too.

Though Alva's sky may lack the stars of my characters, I like to think Atria picked star names from the sky she was born under, as if in doing so she could become an immortal giant, shining forever and going out with a bang just like the stars. (cough) heavenly bodies

Karan is a name I don't remember how I found, and don't remember the meaning of, unfortunately... But I remember liking how warm it sounded. It sounds warm to me. But, putting Atria aside, why did all of my oc names have this kind of sound or spelling trend...?

Spencer (Cederic) - I named him after my baby cousin who was just so precious back then... but in hindsight, maybe this wasn't the best oc to dedicate as his namesake. (To be fair, Spencer was/is a terror and I wouldn't have liked him half as much as I did if I hadn't been able to hand him back to his parents at the end of the day.) Cederic was the name that row had chosen for the second brother in the family before we agreed that Spencer would fill that role, so he got that automatically from her!

Balthazar - I... named him after the dog Balto............. sorry balto)

Lars - I have always liked this name by itself, but I think original inspiration for the name may have come from Larsa, from FFXII. Literally no feelings towards the character, I just like the way the name sounds.

Elise (Elizabeth) - I have another OC named Elise who I never got around to using very much, so I ported her name over. Originally, I like the name Elise because it belongs to a childhood friend who I admired a lot. I chose Elizabeth as the full name because it's a nice classic name (P&P anyone??) that fits the nickname.

Tatiana - This name also comes from someone I knew in school-- she was a childhood enemy. I associate the name with dismissive, snooty girls.

Piers (Pieter) - I LOVE THIS SPELLING OF THE NAME PETER!! I always say it with all the vowels so it sounds more like PI-eh-ter. Piers is another name I love a lot, and it was fittingly cheesy for a chuunibyou trying to pick an alias at like 11 years old. What kind of edgy fledgling gangster wants to be named Peter??

Thyme - I have a whole series of OCs named after herbs. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. : ))) I like simon and garfunkel.

Walter - Walt... Disney........ (friendly seeming man with ??? parts of his personality at the head of a ??? company that seems nice but is actually slowly taking over the world??)

Cillian - I liked that the word "kill" is in it. : )))

Nienna was from an elf name generator...
Edrik was off of a list of middle eastern male names. I thought the meaning was appropriate for his character but it's been so long I don't remember what it means LOL.

Guen's name was chosen because I wanted something French sounding and commanding/queenly.

Lyan was named waaaaay back in 2013, but his name was really out of nowhere LOL I just looked at his face, said "Lyan" and that was it. Because the place he came from in his original group had some Turkish inspirations, I decided to make his surname (Binici) Turkish!

Leo's was much simpler - because Lyan sounds like lion, the family ended up having a lion as a mascot so it was always pretty clear to me Lyan's kid would be named Leo. (Leon could also be considered but Leo sounds more casual imo)

Levi I had in my "I'd like to have a character with this name" list, so when I came up with him I picked it up from there! Heeren was chosen from a list of dutch surnames for the simple reason it sounded nice LOL--
Levi's birthname, Labhrás Ó Cathluain (which I just changed LOL), is basically made of names I can more or less pronounce, as opposed to most Gaelic names... it roughly translates to Laurence Culhoun.

Andros Rhodon:
Andros is legit a name I just got from asking one of my friends what was a cool sounding name and then Andros came out- Rhodon was from Mount and Blade Warband, there was a faction called the Rhodoks and I wanted to get that sort of hilly, unmounted armored flavor to him.

Katherine Overture:
I just wanted the most over the top, fancy, pain in the butt name ever. That's it, that's Katherine's origin story.

Owain Shiansach:
I looked at irish baby names for his first name and Shiansach is roughly equivlant to Overture for Kat's last name

Carine Donadieu
French baby names.... if I remember Donadieu is child of god or something similar so her church orphan origin is. well on display.
