Description
Pharina stood on the ridge overlooking the valley beyond. This world was new, still unspoiled, the air clean and sweet, the animals untroubled by the blights of civilization. And the first prayers of the young sentients here had not been a call to darkness born of fear, but a call to light born of love, love for the universe and all its beauty, and a desire to preserve such treasure for all time.Tears of joy came to the Bright Goddess's eyes, and she began to dance. Flowers sprang to life where her tears struck the ground, and all around her everything seemed to grow taller, more vibrant as animals came from every direction to share in the celebration.
Laughing as her animal friends danced around her, she broke into a run, eager to find the beings who had called out to her in prayer and offer all the blessings of harmony they so greatly deserved...

Nice work R-Type. Pharina's looking very nice, and great work with the grassy field. One thing, though: right now it looks more like Pharina's falling over sideways than dancing since we can't really tell where her legs are.

I disagree with your eariler commenter about the need for a more cartoony background. I think that the characters and foreground stand well with the background. Sure, there is a division of where one meets and the other begins, but isn't that the way it is when you stand over such a magnificent sight? It makes you feel small and yet lucky to behold such wonderous creation? I believe that is what you were attempting with the work.

Like I said, I saw that photo and knew it was the right background. And yeah, I do feel the same way when I see pictures like that. Makes me want to get out and see the world. ^^
That said, I would like to get in a little more practice with drawing backgrounds, since I don't do a lot of them, and it would help my comic work a great deal if I did.

I know the feeling. Backgrounds are hard enough and then placing the character(s) in there makes it more of a challenge.

Change of pace is good every now and then. And Pharina's as much part of my world as Kallisti is, even if she doesn't show up near as much, so hey.

The spellcaster and birds look great. But the background does them no justice. You need a background with a slightly more cartoonish feel.

*nod* Drawings and photos don't always go together perfectly. In this particular case I saw that photo and I knew immediately that it was the background I wanted to use for this image. Next time I use a photo perhaps I'll try running it through some more Photoshop filters and see if I can get a look that's more consistent with the foreground.

Just remember that even the slightest modification can change the pic dramatically. Photoshop is a wonderful tool!
