A piece of Summertime in the Fall.

This is yet another college assignment dealing with depth-of field. The flowers were close by and set against the sunny window, so it seemed like a fair way of cutting corners to get the right results. As it happens, the tones that I captured are striking enough to see me submit the images here.

Image two of two. The toning and composition of tihs one is pretty-much right, but the focusing is a little off. It's not enough of a problem to detract from the image as a whole, though, I think.

i think this piece works extremely well... i'll try to put why into words, but i apologise if it doesn't go so well...

the focus is set behind the 'main' flower of the image, but a 'background' leaf in the bottom left of the frame is in sharp focus
this confusion prevents the eye of the viewer resting easily on any on part of the image, and keeps it moving around
in a darker photograph, this could create an unsettling effect, but i feel here, with all the bright, vibrant colours, and with the rear of the frame being flooded with light, the overall impression of the piece is one of great energy - which matches perfectly with the image itself, a 'snapshot' of life, as it were

sorry... science student, not good with that sort of thing, but i wanted to explain how i saw it

Thank-you for taking the time to write a detailed comment, I appreciate it muchly. I had tried a darker representation in processing but it looked more sort-of dull than unsettling, so I stuck with the energetic interpretation that came straight from the camera.

Cheers for the favourite-list additions, too!

This, too, is beautiful, but I like the previous one more... something about that one had such joy and movement in it, whereas this is very still.

Still lovely (:

That's interesting; most people seem to prefer this one over the other. You weirdy, you. :D

College assignments often are, esepcially when one is feeling particularly uninspired at any given moment.

It's still good, though. I mean, it's perfect. Just very unusual. For you.

I'm not sure about perfect, but it is somewhat unusual when compared to most of my other material. It is what was at-hand at the time to allow me to demonstrate the technique that the assignment requested.

Heh, yes, I understand.
Rather like when I was asked to write something about Elvis, athlete's foot, and peanut butter sandwiches, something horrific happened that is rather different from my usual work
