Description Just felt like trying something with screentones... did this on a very chill, melancholy day while waiting for finals.

...I don't suppose anybody knows a better resource for finding screentones? The patterns I use in Photoshop are a bit... tacky at times.

I adore the poetic aspects of this piece; it appears simple and quite plain at a first glance, but should the viewer take but one moment to better examine and appreciate the composition, the subject's expression, and the colour, one can certainly sense a good lot of depth hidden within: emotional, contemplative depth.

Like all of your other work, this is absolutely amazing. I'm loving how there is no color, it really adds to the mood of the picture.

Man, you do reference sketches so well. Like, with all the stray lines.

I didn't notice anything wrong with this. But then again I'm not an artist so I won't notice those things. I like what you've got here.

There's really only two good options for using screen tones digitally:

Buy some singles online (don't buy from art stores on these, I got a pack of 5 sheets online a few years ago for around a dollar, every store I've seen has singles for 9), scan them in, and use the pattern maker to make a pattern brush for it.

Splurge on one of those "Create your own Manga" softwares. Yeah, basically everything in them is crap, but they generally have a huge cash of screen tone patterns and are pretty easy to apply through them.

I wish I could remember where I ordered those tones from, though...

Yeah, I've been looking at Manga Studio Debut by smith micro... I tried the demo, and it's a disaster as far as user-friendliness goes, but I bet it'd be really handy for toning.

I'll go ahead and hunt for some single sheets, though - that sounds like a pretty good method! Thanks a bunch!
