Description I did this as a warmup for my polychromatic project for this year's fine arts cometition... and I am really happy with how it came out! I just wanted something to goof around with, so I pulled out the lineart I had laying around of Mario. I had wanted to CG this like all the others, but it was big, and I was bored, so I tried stuff on it.

I thought of a theme to continue with this... I used Tuscan Red undertoning/shading, just to try something different, and the result is a very dramatic, deep color job. The idea is this - Nintendo characters have dark red undertone, Sega characters have dark blue undertone. Kinda like Sonic Riders having each character's "color" override their shading and outline. Except this is a generalized theme.

Man, I really love the mood this gives. The other night, my youngest sister and I (she's my co-writer) came up with some awesome material for the story. It's gonna make you cry. And no, we're not killing Mario. But you're still gonna cry. We were getting all choked up just talking about it.

It seems like it needs a background, but nothing I did seemed to complement the picture very much. Anybody have ideas for a simple background gradient that would work with it, color-wise?

If you look closely, you may notice that the hair between his cap and his ear is colored wrong (lol).

Breaking has taken a turn for the way better. Another one of my buds is interested in starting with me, and wants the videos I've been learning from. I'm getting better and smoother at the six-step, and I'm gonna go get a tut for the seven- or eight-step. I'm frustrated with the six, because it doesn't add up in 4/4 timing, and I haven't got any other cool fortwork to fill the other two beats with. I'm still struggling with basic toprock stuff.

Alright- footwork is always consistent. It's just like bap-bap-bap-bap-bap. A lot of it just a consistent flow relative to the music. A lot of COOL footwork hits the beat, but most of it is just flow.

Toprock is ALL beat though. And it just takes practice and careful analyzing of where the different parts of your body are moving, and how they're moving together. Plus, you must love to dance.

ALSO- You have to have good music to break to ta rock the beat. o_o This is impoartawnt.

AND GO TO MOUNT VERNON HIGH SCHOOL ON THURSDAAAAAAAY. Lots of cool peeps break there, and you'll learn SO much in that one day. Just go and bug people to teach you and you'll get hooked up. Tell them that Michael Wilson sent ya...the old skoo peeps'll know what's up.

Try like a fight bg (like a Bowser's castle theme). If it's just colorwise, go with a flame background, which can give 1 0f 2 reasons:

1: Shows of Mario's fire abilities
or
2: Tells there's a fight about to happen in Bowser's Domain.

brings back memories of Chrismas morning when I got my SNES with the pack-in Super Mario World. NO no when I bought my own N64 and played Super Mario 64..yeah yeah thats it. Ahhh the good ol' days. Where in the freak is Galaxy?! Hurry up Nintendo! [yes, i left out Sunshine on purpose]

sooooo anyway i like the red undertones. Definately gives it a deeper mood. Great job!

Yeah, man... those were the days. My family got consoles a generation late, so when the N64 was just coming in, we got the SNES... I remember going to Toys-R-Us the next day and getting Super Mario RPG, and thinking, "This is the best game evar!" And we got Super Mario World and All-Stars... those days were my favorite in all of video gaming. I've been waiting ever since to see if Nintendo will put out something that captures that particular level of AWESOME that it had when those two generations came in, the SNES with Super Mario World and the N64 with Super Mario 64. And I agree, Sunshine doesn't count.
