Another Lord of the Rings, another charcoal portrait
The King of the Gypsies for The Return of the King. My favorite Disney charatcer. I love how ambiguous Clopin is. He can be the villain or an ally, someone who seems to be nothing and yet one of the most powerful men in Paris. The movie is ok, but I LOVED the stage show they had at the Disney MGM-Studios, and I will never forgive them for shutting the show down.
The 5-day Clopin could make your hair stand on end, his voice was so beautiful and powerful.I could not be happier with this drawing. So if you don't like it, too bad

Materials: Black condensed charcoal: 2B, 4B, 6B. Black vine charcoal medium, white stick charcoal, kneaded eraser, pink pearl rubber eraser, a napkin and fingers for smudging. Yeah for dirty fingers!
I used a lot of vine this time, to get the softer mid-tone greys. Method: charcoal reduction.

I love Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame. It didn't relate to the original story, which dissapointed me, but it was well done! The characters were brilliant!

He was rather on the fence in terms of good or bad, and sometimes looked so sinister, you captured that well.

Amazing! Such a stunning picture! Clopin is one of my favorite characters too! Hunchback is by far my favorite Disney movie ever, and I too will never forgive Disney World for closing down the show in the Studios.
My parents and I always used to listen closely to "the big note" at the end of Bells of Notre Dame. If the guy playing Clopin nailed it, we knew it would be a good show. I think out of the 3 or 4 times we saw the show, we only had a Clopin miss the note once.
I miss that show!

The Bells of Notre Dame always gives me chills. I even have the show track from when Disney had these kiosks where you could create your own cd's. Sigh... they still aren't even using the theater!
