Description Hollywood Boulevard at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Florida. One of the few night photos I was able to get during our last trip because it rained nearly every night. In fact, it started to rain a few minutes after I took this one.

I was doing a bit of an experiment with my then new camera, trying different apertures and shutter speeds. I wanted to see what it would look like to max out the aperture. And this is what it looks like.

The park had closed and everyone was leaving. I liked that someone was having their picture taken in the middle of the street on their way out.

Messed around with curves in photoshop and then converted to black and white because I liked it better that way. And the Studios is meant to evoke Hollywood in it's heyday back in the 30's and 40's, so b&w seemed appropriate, despite the giant Sorcerer Mickey hat.

Awesome shot! I really like the blur of the people.
Waah, I went to Disney last week and when I heard "Hollywood Studios", I thought it was a new park, but turns out it replaced the word 'MGM'.

Thank you

They lost the rights to the MGM title so just renamed the park. Must be so confusing.

i think some guy did a series of photos with long exposure to get the ghost effect. i really do like it!

AreteEirene In reply to xian-ated [2008-08-22 11:43:00 +0000 UTC]

Thank you

What was so cool for me for this one was how long the shutter was versus how well the blur showed up. If it had been just a few people they wouldn't have shown up at all, but since hundreds were walking by it gave such a weird blur.

welcome! yeah, i think what he did was put his camera in front of crowded places like train stations and the like, maybe you can try doing that?

Very nice. I did notice the person in the middle taking the picture, it's awesome how that just randomly happened.

I wish I could get a whole wardrobe of the suits and what not from the 30's and 40's. I've always liked that era.

AreteEirene In reply to Sephy117 [2008-08-20 07:43:45 +0000 UTC]

I get them from time to time, people taking pictures while my shutter is open. Always makes a neat effect.

I love suits from the 30's.

Me, too... if only I had enough money to buy more. I'd love to have my full wardrobe like that. XD

I know what you mean about the rain! It kind of sucked but it was fun to push a trash cart when it was raining.

AreteEirene In reply to jarmitc2032 [2008-08-20 07:45:47 +0000 UTC]

There was nothing quite like having the heavens open and drenching a parade. That was so much extra work. Once they pulled all the "can't be in the rain" costumes off parade route at various place - the stilts went down at Sleepy Hollow, we had to go pick up all the 25 Anniversary Fish from the tunnel under Diamond horseshoe. Now that was a memory!

cool shot! our big Mickey hat is in Downtown Disney outside the Disneyland Hotel. Lights up at night ^^

They are reworking California Adventures's front to be more 40s California. Should be awesome.

yeah they finished the Toy Story 4D ride and it is open and they are still working on the Little Mermaid ride. They also have to build a full Cars land.

I've been reading about the Cars land over on screamscape. Sounds like there's going to be a whole lotta Pixar at DCA.

yep. I'd rather have Pixar over at CAA than at DL. I love Pixar but I also love classic DL, you know?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to KV-Arts [2008-08-23 17:56:19 +0000 UTC]

I can see that. What all Pixar is at DL anyway? At the MK we've only got Buzz.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KV-Arts In reply to AreteEirene [2008-08-23 18:23:49 +0000 UTC]

We have Buzz (took over Circle Vision) & Nemo (took over the Submarines). If they are going to add another Pixar, it should be something to take over "honey I shrunk the audience"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AreteEirene In reply to KV-Arts [2008-08-23 18:46:05 +0000 UTC]

I forgot about Nemo. They filled in the 20,000 Leagues lagoon here, and I doubt they'd put something Pixar in Fantasyland in it's place. HIStA is at Epcot for us, which doesn't have Pixar stuff except for the Seas with Nemo, which is practically next door, so I doubt they'd put something there, but I guess we never know. Toy Story might work for the Imagination pavilion, but they've already got such a Toy Story presence at the Studios I'm not sure they'd go that way. Wallβ€’E would be cute for Epcot, and Ratatouille maybe in the France pavilion. In fact, I wish they'd replace the Lion King environmental movie thing in the Land with something Wallβ€’ E inspired. That would rock.

KV-Arts In reply to AreteEirene [2008-08-23 18:54:47 +0000 UTC]

Here Pixar is in Tomorrlowland only. So it makes sense.
So we have 4 Pixar rides (we also have Monsters Inc. in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot). Ratatouille and WAll.E are still in the Animation building as concept art/promotions.

It has been raining SO much! Almost every afternoon - I haven't been able to spend more than a morning in the parks.

We go and suffer through the rain, but it's disappointing because I can't take pictures and after a while I just get tired of being wet. I swear I'm only going in the winter from now on, when it's relatively dry.

Cool shot As for the giant hat, I learned that the real 30s and 40s Hollywood had a club called The Brown Derby which was shaped like a giant Derby hat. So if the REAL 30s and 40s coud have a giant hat in the street...
Also, I learned that there was a rights issue with the owners of the chinese theater. Aparantly, Disney had to pay them everytime it was photographed so rather than do that or take the ride out, they placed a hat that covered it and kept the building from being photographed as much.

AreteEirene In reply to Dragonrider1227 [2008-08-20 07:49:58 +0000 UTC]

I take it you've never noticed that they're a replica Brown Derby at the Studios?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragonrider1227 In reply to AreteEirene [2008-08-20 13:28:31 +0000 UTC]

I do know it's there, but it's not in the shape of the big Derby hat as the original was. I think they should've gone for that
