I've always wanted to draw somethingstyled like this. Why haven't I???

ask if one can be friends. I think it's kind of a given.
And how are you going to improve if you don't get and
learn from critique? It's a very good thing.

It's true. But lets think abt it in a Deviantart perspective where everything is really hard to understand and relationships that lasts long are hard to come by=3.
I could know you and if we met in a more personal way, we would be friends
but in DA you can't know if someone really wants to be friends with you or not. And the kind that lasts long and not the I'll comment 1,2,3 times and I'm too busy to bother abt you kind of thing.
(O_O) So, that's my explanation on your question. It's true. Also abt the critique thing, altho I would say Constructive critique is good. The kind that makes you go "Yeah, I'll listen to this person and try my best to make my next art better!" compared to mean useless critique that makes you go "I knew it, I'm a lousy artist, I should give up..."

No, no, there is nothing i put more value on than
people taking the time to write an actual comment.
Yes I see what you mean now, and sure we can be
"real friends" with the honest, supporting critique
and good spirit. It's very important in DA to develope your
people skills, learn to stand behind you works and learn to
explain your choises in your art. It's about learning, so that's
why I would like more people to give critique. If you can make
long lasting relationships here too then nothing is better! It's a little
hard though because there are alot of people with a very loose
passion about art, they like it but aren't in a level to give advise, so you
get alot of comments that are nice and supporting but don't really give
you anything to work with, though they give you motivation.
But you will learn in your own way I think. Oh my, this is such a rant now!
