The Zuberg noble family were once citizens of the Diamond kingdom. The Diamond kingdom is known for its bizarre experiments with its children. They gather the most powerful and magically blessed children, give them intense training, then
force them to fight one another until the last one of them survives. That individual then becomes their test subject in order to become the absolute strongest. The Zuberg family refused to give up their child to such terrifying experience. And instead, they decided to flee to the Clover kingdom, one at a time so they wouldn’t get caught. The first one to successfully cross the border was Satella at the age of 13, with a travel companion of course. She was to wait for her parents to reach the magic barrier that protects the Clover kingdom. Completely lost, Satella wandered around the forsaken realm, seeking a place to settle in. After restlessly wandering for what seemed like forever, Satella miraculously crossed paths with Yuno, who was on his way back to Hage village with a stack of wood. He offered her to come along, assuring that she'd be welcomed with open arms. She of course accepted, and just like Yuno said, everyone welcomed her, giving her food and shelter until her parents arrive. Satella waited for 2 whole years, but they never made it...
Everyone at Hage village were like family to her, Specially Asta and Yuno who were pretty close with her. As time passed, Satella began developing deeper feelings towards Yuno, not to mention that he was also her savior.

As they turned 15, Asta, Yuno, and Satella traveled to the capital to become magic knights. Satella's goal was to be able to reach out to those in need, and even those who went through the same thing she did. Everything went unexpectedly well at the entrance exam. She was chosen by 3 magic knight captains; the Crimson Knights, The Black Bulls, and the Silver Eagles. Not having the opportunity to join Yuno in the Golden Dawn, Satella decided it was better if she joined the Black Bulls along with Asta, not realizing what she was soon getting herself into.
