do you know then they use hiragana and katakana ? i believe they use katakana in names but i am not sure

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-05-21 03:24:24 +0000 UTC]

hiragana is mainly for grammar and syntax, katakana is for names and objects of foreign origin.

dude help me i am soooooooooooo confused why is Tomodachi (friends) writen with kanji and why does Chikara εŠ› (power) look like Ka γ‚« in katakana. OK that last one was a stupid question XD

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-07-09 06:11:35 +0000 UTC]

A lot of Japanese words are written in kanji, but that only really matters if you're reading or writing. The pronounciation doesn't change even if it's written in kanji. The point of kanji is to compactly express specific words without getting the sounds mixed up (since there are a lot of words that are pronounced the same, but the kanji are different so they mean different things).

As for Ka, it looks basically the same in both hiragana and katakana.

can the same words in kanji be written in katakana ? or does that change the whole meaning ? i mean can the word power be written in both kanji(εŠ›) and katakana (チカラ)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-07-09 18:19:43 +0000 UTC]

No, katakana is for pronouncing foreign words. If you want to sound out how to say a kanji word, it should be done in hiragana.

thank you dam Japanese is very hard...XD but i will do my best.

i have soon learn all the hiragana what could i focus on afterwards ?

No problem, keep it up!

You should also memorize all the katakana symbols, which shouldn't take long since they sound the same as hiragana.

does gomen kudasai means Hello, Anyone home? I got it from I site I learn words from. I thought gomen kind of a shortcut for gomenasai

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-08-02 19:29:19 +0000 UTC]

kudasai usually means "please", but the greeting for going to someone's house literally translates to something like "sorry I'm intruding".

sorry for disturbing for again gomen but so far you are the best advisor i got.
i have noticed in other words like ittekimasu that when they combine tsu and te it become tte the same thing appear in itterashai when they combine tsu, shi and ya and it become ssha..would you mind helping me.....again ?

ooh and by the way thanks for all the advices so far i have just learn all hiragana but as you see i need more help.

No problem, I'm totally cool with helping out, I am planning to become a teacher after all

The little "tsu" is actually not pronounced. Its purpose is to put a pause in the word. Every character in hiragana is exactly 1 beat (like in music) long, so with a "tsu", it would be just like a rest. So for ittekimasu, it would be pronounced like i-*pause*-tekimasu.

i want to become a teacher too XD but not in Japanese or any other major subjects, i want to become a 5-8 dan karate master and teach others. i feel that i can easily read hiragana so what is the best way to learn words ? i got this program Rosetta stone but it is sooooo slow i know i can learn more words faster then that. i hope you really become a teacher cause you be the best and beside you have already helpt me. btw how old are you ? i am 18

Oh that's cool, how long have you been doing karate?

For expanding your vocabulary, yeah for sure just search up the words in a dictionary. It's still good to learn it in hiragana first though because then at least you can pronounce the word

Thanks! I like helping people I'm only one year older than you lol

i have been training since January, i am training Goju ryu karate in Sweden with sensei Tore and i am currently 8 kyu orange belt. i got lucky the first season normally you go from white belt to yellow then orange but i manage to go directly to orange and now i am reaching for green. is there any program or video i can use to expand my vocabulary ? you right i should focus on hiragana words right know it is too early to learn kanji.Β

Awesome

Maybe try looking up some speech videos? Not sure if there's much vocabulary though; I didn't learn that way so I can't help much there.

Haku-47 In reply to Armageddons-Day [2013-07-29 17:41:27 +0000 UTC]

okey should i go directly to katakana or should i learn more words in hiragana ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-07-31 06:31:48 +0000 UTC]

You don't really need to "learn" katakana words since they're literally just English words written with Japanese sounds 90% of the time. For example: hamburger = ハンバーガ (hanbaaga).

So yeah, just learn some vocabulary in hiragana if you can

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Haku-47 In reply to Armageddons-Day [2013-07-31 15:08:34 +0000 UTC]

i know i can i but katakana is also used in names so i should at least know how to read it. i found a site were i can learn Japanese words.

can words in hiragana like cat be writen in kanji ? i have this Japanese learning program (rosetta stone) and they have this thing called furigana and its shows a word in kanji then the same word in hiragana on top

Armageddons-Day In reply to Haku-47 [2013-07-18 05:56:50 +0000 UTC]

yup, neko, along with many other nouns, does have kanji to go along with it. it's best to learn the hiragana first before trying to memorize all the kanji because kanji is haaaarrrrd lol.

I learned hiragana in my beginner Japanese class with a bunch of pictures to remind me what the letters look like I recommend just searching up some hiragana flash cards
