Description An alternate history map where the ice age never ended (I know we actually still live in an ice age and only have a break, but you know what i mean ) and completely different cultures and peoples formed. Europe doesnΒ΄t have a large population, even tho there is more land in the North Sea, it is mostly tundra and nordic forest there. The rich mines attracted some colonists tho and you still have several million people all over Europe (north of the Alps).

what about if the ice age was still like this in the 21s century?

Perhaps make a map of this area without the current coastline being so prominent?

Also, I think I read somewhere that your 'Gidrifir bay' was created when an ice dam broke and much of the collected water from the melting ice rushed out of the Baltic in a massive flash flood.

Maybe, but I donΒ΄t wanna make another ice age map at the moment^^

Nice world. Love the detail

What other places were changed by the ice age

TBH if this were the British Isles and France/Germany/Lowlands in our timeline the British Isles would most likely be first inhabited by Early Germanics instead of Celts considering the Rhine River was the border between Celtic and Germanic tribes even considering how Germanic Tribes sort of leaked across the river in regions such as Belgae.

That might be possible, they have no space in Scandinavia because of the ice shield,
so they might migrate further west.

Nicely done, and interesting idea for alternate history. Not just people's choices can vary, but geography too!

Very interesting map, I didn't know anything about Doggerland; here in DA we can learn more than in the awful Spanish schools... XD

And what about the names? Were you inspired by any real language or they are pure invention? Many wyes...

Indeed I learned so much here, and I have a big list there will come many more cool things^^

But atm IΒ΄m a phase of experiments, using new programs and testing out styles.

They are invented

Neat! So what are the plants and animals like in the Ice Age world? Did the Neanderthals still survive? How has technology developed differently on account of the different climates and resource availability? Much to query here, I'm afraid, but only because it's such a good concept!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arminius1871 In reply to AvatarVyakara [2017-05-11 05:54:18 +0000 UTC]

The Neanderthals are already extinct, they died out 30.000 years ago. They didnΒ΄t even make it to the end
of the last ice age.

The civilizations will still form in the middle east and egypt etc. but there wonΒ΄t be a roman empire or a densely
populated Europe any time soon.

Europe north of the Alps wouldΒ΄ve some forests but itΒ΄s mostly cold and dry with tundra gras, this doggerland would
be like northern Russia today.

Poor Neanderthals...
So not a densely populated Europe, fair enough. How are the jungles further south?

Great map ! I've wanted to do something similar for quite some time now, gathering informations on the world's sea level at the time. Would you mind sharing your sources ? I've found the map you took inspiration from and some others including world maps and GIS files but I'm still looking for an interactive map where one can set the sea level. If you got something like this, I'd be very grateful.

Arminius1871 In reply to Thomas-Rey [2017-05-10 09:41:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!

Maybe this site could be useful, you can scale up from a few up to 60 meter:

geology.com/sea-level-rise/

You could zoom in and take a screenshot for a basemap, I hope that helps a bit

not to nitpick, but I was expecting a city in northern Wales, at the location of the Great Orme copper mine.Β  Talk about a resource of considerable wealth in the ancient world.

Makes me want to do my "If Doggerland was still around" map, although it'd less be "still the ice age" as much as "Doggerland is 100m higher."

I remember reading one comment on the AlternateHistoryHub's YouTube channel that asked what if Doggerland were still around, and the first reply was "Germany would win WWII." You know, just skip over 10,000 years of history, pretend that Doggerland being around still means nothing else happens, and Germany invades Britain via Doggerland

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arminius1871 In reply to Spiritswriter123 [2017-05-10 05:57:03 +0000 UTC]

Sure do it IΒ΄d like to see other versions^^

HAHAHA you should explain them what a "butterfly" in AH is XD
Such a landbridge or more like completely new lands would change
everything. But basically it would be similar too, different nations appear
and have wars.

"Alea iacta est!", as Ceaser crosses a smallΒ creek.
Also just think how the world would look like without the maritime expeditions of the British and Scandinavians.
It's also most likely that the language differences between the nordic, high and low germans would be smaller

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Arminius1871 In reply to FictionalMaps [2017-05-10 06:01:08 +0000 UTC]

It would change everything, the Germanics formed in Southern Scandinavia and Northern Germany,
but here there would be mostly ice, so if they migrate to that place too, they would be somewhere else
maybe exactly on Doggerland, if there is space among the celtic tribes^^

Exactly the darkest green was one of the last, ofc also the modern coast has changed a lot
even within the last 1000 years, but I wanted to use the modern shape of the basemap too^^
