Description Practicing rotoscoping. My goal is to become an animator one day, so this is good practice.

Got the reference video from here: [link]
(this was a good movie btw )
I felt that one move was very "waterbender-ish" like from Avatar the Last Airbender, so I decided to experiment with motion of water. I'm impressed with the over all effect.

Sorry for my lack of activity lately, I'm just so BUSY! Pre-Cal is no joke, man.

Nice and smooth. It's great! How did you do the rotoscope?

oh haha I did this so long ago... basically download a video you want to rotoscope off of and copy the shapes/forms frame by frame.

AngelERenoir In reply to arswiss [2012-05-11 18:13:03 +0000 UTC]

I get that, but how do you trace the forms? Do you, like, screencap the video every other second or so?

arswiss In reply to AngelERenoir [2012-05-11 20:28:22 +0000 UTC]

you can, it's a bit of a lengthy process though. I think that's how I did this one. It works easier with gifs, because if you bring a gif into photoshop it already has every single frame on separate layers. So if you know how to turn a video into a gif, you're set.

Photoshop does that? What version are you using? In my photoshop if i open an animated GIF, it just tells me if I over-write it I will lose the animation.

Ah, that's probably why. Mine's CS3. That's probably a new setting that isn't in CS3.

arswiss In reply to Ixheartxartx [2011-07-05 23:46:29 +0000 UTC]

if you have photoshop, you can makes GIFs, or moving images. In your "windows" bar at the top, there should be oand option called "Animation" and then it works like Flash from there. You later export the image or save as a GIF.

awesome animation! Um, I drew the frames in Paint Tool Sai at this size and then saved it as a Photoshop file, and used the animation window to put it in frames so... idk, it was this size to begin with

Ok, that's cool, I was just wondering cuz my Ma was going to get me one for the holidays, and I thought I'd do a little research on em. I never used one before so...yea. What do you recommend?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arswiss In reply to Agni-san [2010-12-22 03:14:33 +0000 UTC]

well hmm, definitely get one with pen pressure, most have them now a days but you never know. Nothing TOO big because those can be awkward to handle. If you're new to them then don't get one with a bunch of fancy extra's. It just gets too confusing. All mine does is have the pen, the tablet, a "right click" button and a "left click" button. There's touch pad on mine too, but I never use it. The more they have the more expensive they are. I saw one for 3000$. That's for a professional job.
The first time you use it will be weird, my friend can't seem to get used to it. But keep practicing and eventually it will be all good.
Good luck!
