Another WIP, this time a realistic owl. The gourd owls I've made previously are folk artsy and I discontinued the series. In their place I'm trying more realistic birds. This one seems to be working out so far, so I'll be making more owls, birds of prey, and song birds in the future! This guy is made of two whole gourds (body, head), and cut gourds for the wings and tail. He's mounted on cedar driftwood. Sculpted with epoxy, eyes are hand-painted acrylic cabochons.My gourd Turkey Vulture for was part of my experimenting with realistic gourd birds:
