Description Feel free to reblog on Tumblr, but I'd appreciate doing so from  here.
Process Video is up!
I beat Skyward Sword again last night. Even though it was a speed run just to get back to Hero Mode (since our former Wii died) you just can't help becoming personally invested in the story. I don't know how he does it, but Miyamoto nails it each time--and not just every game, but every single time you play the game! Kudos, man...just kudos. ALL the feels...

This particular moment illustrates something no one sees when they play the game. When Link takes his first trip to the Silent Realm, I often wonder if Fi worries about him--in her own calculating way. Maybe, maybe not, but regardless I get the feeling that she is glad to see him return successfully after his Trial.

EDIT: Here's a poem by LittlewriterLink inspired by this moment.

My dude, I routinely slip into hour-long conversations about Zelda with my close friends (online and off) so there's no need to apologize— I getchu. There's a lot to say!

Skyward Sword has its flaws, but it does often feel like its detractors played a completely different game than I did. I have a GREAT time whenever I play through it, and I love the story and characters and the dynamic between Link and Zelda in this game.

That being said... please play Breath of the Wild, friend. As open as it is, there will always be a Main Path for you to follow if you so desire! And each of the main areas has a story and characters to lead you through them. But don't be surprised if you find yourself getting curious and caught up in exploration along the way! It's such a beautiful and rewarding world to run around, while also giving you the freedom to decide the pace and path for yourself. And the story.... hnnn... the story. If you thought Zelda in Skyward Sword was a good character (which I did, and still do) then take it from me: BotW Zelda is more complex and relatable and human than any other one in the franchise.

Give it a tryyyyy— I almost guarantee you won't be disappointed.

haha, I figured you'd get it

Thanks for the BOTW advice! I watched so many video reviews that are like "whoop, surprise lynel death! whoop- surprise mega monster death!" that I got a bit intimidated. I like a slow graduation through game difficulty and I've never once died in a Zelda game (EXCEPT A LINK TO THE PAST. I DIED EVERY 10 MINUTES ASDSFK) but all the same I know I will love it. I'm already in love with all the characters with what little I've seen of them. I have PTSD so video games can be tricky for me and I don't like being surprised- it can literally mean a sleepless night and jitters for the rest of the day. But I feel like if I got through those damned Silent Realms, which were the most stressful Zelda experience I've had yet, then I can get through BOTW. I /loved/ Zelda and Link in SS and I was so excited to hear that they are expanding upon that in BOTW and the sequel (and I adore Zelda's character design in BOTW & the sequel as well). I think the biggest reason I've been putting off playing BOTW is because it's the last Zelda game on my list. Every time I re-read the Harry Potter series, I can never bring myself to read the last book because I hate endings lol.

Do you have a favourite Zelda game? Mine (very predictably) is OOT, and it's also my preferred difficulty level as well (which is to say that it's definitely one of the easier Zelda's). I love the story and lore and just....raw epicness of Skyward Sword, and it also has some of my all time favourite Zelda music. It felt like it had that same magic the n64 games had for me when I was a kid except I was playing it for the first time in my 20's. If I had watched my brother play SS as a kid, I feel like that boost of nostalgia would absolutely make it my favourite Zelda game. The kid in me was just utterly delighted by it...that game awoke some sort of childhood wonder/sense of adventure that I had lost in my 20's, and it was been such a gift. But those silent realms and having to face The Imprisoned three times...arguably the most irritating boss fight I can recall, are the two things that have prevented me from returning to the game sooner. The only Zelda game I've played that I would not play again was A Link to the Past. I really appreciated seeing where the series evolved from, and I have a ton of respect for that game but it was the least amount of fun I've had playing a video game in recent memory.

BotW has actually jumped to the top of that list very solidly, in recent weeks. It’s SO enjoyable to run around in, and the soundtrack is actually very relaxing to me. Plus the horses... ahhh riding around in a Hyrule is very chill. It’d say it’s more challenging than OOT, but in a fun way! Any deaths that happen (and they prrrrrobably will happen) are either due to the perils of exploring, the player goofing off, or engaging in a fight you’re not ready for (which lends itself really well to the lore of the world, and it’s pretty easy to judge for yourself whether or not you’re ready to take on a group of enemies, and SO SATISFYING if you achieve victory).

I actually have a big phobia of monsters that scream at you (nothing at all as serious as PTSD), so I have trouble re-playing Wind Waker and OOT in particular, and loved Twilight Princess and SS because they did away with screamy re-deads. Here’s hoping they don’t bring those back in BotW2... but I’d struggle through it anyway for the sake of this fantastic story. XD

I really love exploring in games, and I'm glad to hear that BoTW continues the series' great music as well. I'm so glad to hear this game has your full endorsement! You know, I just realized that I start every Zelda game farming for heart pieces but I'm guessing I won't be able to do that in BoTW....if there even are heart pieces?? I've just gotta be okay with letting go of some of that control I suppose. I'm so excited to visit the Gerudo's and Zora's domain. I already love Sidon and Urbosa with what little I've seen of them.

Oh, I hear you about the ReDeads. I'm fairly certain every person who plays the series is afraid of them and the scream/paralysation aspect puts it over into "not-fun anymore" territory for me too. One of my favourite youtubers "Zeltik" posts videos devoted to Zelda theory and lore and his theory of the ReDeads was so sad that it actually made me fear them less. I always figured the ReDeads were evil monsters, placed by Ganondorf's dark magic in the dungeons, but Zeltik's theory, which is incredibly sound and well thought-out, is that Hyrule has a dark and bloody past as evidenced by the Arbiter's Grounds and the Shadow Temple; the Sheikah tribe, skilled with Shadow magic and tasked with protecting the royal family, re-animated the corpses of the enemies they tortured in the well and in the Shadow Temple to serve as eternal guardians. The Redeads still have a vestige of their humanity left: alone, cold and in the dark, they assume the fetal position for instinctual comfort, and in Hyrule town, when you kill a ReDead, the others close by will not attack you, but instead will walk towards their fallen and cry Still, every time I play OoT, I blast the Sun Song before they can scream at me lol. And the Bottom of the Well? I just grab that Eye of Truth and get the heck out of there.

Because of my PTSD, I had to compromise some of the challenge/adventure of the Zelda games and I typically use a walkthrough. It helps me know what's waiting for me so I don't get surprised with monsters like the ReDeads, Wall/Floormasters (THE WORST. Epically cool/effective idea for a monster but just the worst). And, for example, in Oot, when I read that The Bottom of the Well dungeon is mostly about collecting Skultulla's, it lets me skip scary things I don't need to do. How many times have I avoided a scary dungeon room with a lousy 20 rupees in a stupid chest for my already full wallet? I can't even count lol.  I don't get any satisfaction/joy from panicking and not knowing what to do in a boss fight, so the walkthroughs make that part much more rewarding for me as well. I know a lot of Zelda fans would think playing that way is a cop-out but it's really the only way that works for me. I just finished my first playthrough of Twilight Princess and I was surprised by how much I loved it (it's not really my aesthetic). The Palace of Twilight with those Zant's hands was almost as bad as the Silent Realms for me, but I just loved the rich story and how much I learned about Hyrule in that game. Ack, a very long comment again- apologies!

The Eldin Trial scared me so bad; If memory serves, I only needed one or two tears, located on the large sandy slope. I kept missing them, and had to run past the guardians all the way to the top to try again, haha.

Oh dear! And yes, of the three that one was the worst for me too (with Skyloft a close second). I got trapped in that little tunnel under the tree with a floating, dual-wielding monster waiting for me on either end. High alert, and one tear to go. Not fun times...XP
