The last two weeks have been really difficult. Starting with a family member dying, and then the resulting family drama as everyone dealt with the stress, anxiety, and more. A lot of the events that ensued left me questioning yet again why I continue to live and breathe, and who I am and what my identity is and what does it matter to anyone.
This is how I self-medicate:
What I love about Vinnie and Charley is their genuine concern for one another, whether it be worrying one may not return from battle alive this time, or whether one needs to hear certain words to make them feel special. What they remind me of is that love, acceptance, companionship, and friendship can be found in the most unlikely places, where you normally wouldn't have thought to look. And I always find this uplifting.
In the little sketches you can see where Vinnie has used his bandana to dry Charley's tears.
Next round of art will be the usual fun, sexy, silly, playful stimuli as usual. I just needed to express in images some Sympathy and Tenderness.
Also, one last time, heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who has personally noted me with kind words and offers of contact information, as well as thanks to my close friends, who were nearby with a text or phone call. It means the world to me.

Oh, most definitely- no arguement here XD He may do his strut for other chicks to impress them or always be a flirt, but Charley is most definitely number 1 in his book.

A really beautiful and intense picture. It is really soothing to see how Vinnie comforts Charley as she's crying her heart out.. How he for once is not the cool guy with the big mouth, but just quietly by her side, giving ..well, yes, sympathy and tenderness
I especially like the bottom left picutre.. It reminds me of a line from the song "Heart and Shoulder" by Heather Nova
"When the night just cuts you thorugh

I can relate really well to how drawing this brought you comfort in the rough time that you had. It turned out really, really beautiful and the emotions of the both of them come out almost tangible.

Thanks so much for the thorough and thoughtful comment! And while Vinnie's mouth is typically running about a good 18 out of 24 hours daily, the series showed that every so often he's at a loss for words where Charley's concerned- especially when it comes acknowledging their relationship on a deeper level ( Vinnie really struggling to carry on a conversation in 'Back to Mars' when she asks him if he'll be coming back, and he's faced with the idea he'll have to leave her behind- perhaps forever, as well as him at a loss for words when trying to tell her goodbye in same said episode, and all the other times she is the one to actually initiate flirting or affection with him and he's left dumbstruck and unable to find words for his emotions ), I figure Vinnie to be the type of guy who really dotes on his girl. We never see Charley ever get teary-emotional in the series, but given the way Vinnie interacts with her, I definitely see him being able to turn off the smartass routine and just really being genteel. Anytime Charley is threatened, we see this extremely protective nature in Vinnie get riled up- like nothing or no one would be able to get inbetween him and his ability to shelter her and his desire to keep her sound- both physically and emotionally. I really love that scene in 'Back to Mars' where Vinnie is shrugging off all of Limburger's goading which is enraging his Bros, but the moment Limburger tosses that photo of Charley at him and makes that passive aggressive threat, Vinnie flies into a rage and is all over those electrified cell bars, totally unphased by the voltage in is desperate anger. It just made it extremely clear that the audience should no longer have any doubts; Charley is definitely his sensitive spot and she's more than just some chick he flirts with from time to time.
Anyway, awesome lyrics, thanks for sharing ^_^. I'm always on the lookout for new songs and prose to help inspire me.
Im working on another collage of VinniexCharley sketches now. Hopefully it will be finished in the not too distant future.

LOL oh I know, I love that part too... And in 'Back to Mars' when she jumps on his bike behind him and the way she teases him as she closes the visor on his helmet. Feh- she flirts with him almost as often as he does with her- she's asking for it, LOL XD. And I always loved how she exclaimed 'I love you, I love you, I love you!' and threw her arms around him in 'My Cheese is Quick'. Plus of course, the sweet little kiss she gives him at the end of OUATOM ^_^

Awwww... It's just not the same in Finnish- or any other language dub- so much lost in translation! Feh- hopefully some day it will all be available again in it's original English and all episodes uncut and unmangled. *sigh*. Some episodes, it's been almost 20 years since I've seen *sniffles*
And I love 'OUATOM'. I wish they would at least do another OVA like that.

Sometimes artwork is one of the best ways to hash out emotions and feelings and/or take control of situations we can't otherwise, or change the outcomes of things we can't normally. It's very cathartic in that way ^_^
And thanks so much for your comment- the ears are definitely an integral feature on the characters! And I've noticed in the series that each Bro had a unique shape of their own in comparison to other characters ( Throttle's tended to be lower-set and more elongated, Vinnie's tended to have a very perked up, cupped shape, etc. etc. ) and I've tried to stay kind of true to that in my own artwork whenever possible. And thanks on the abs- it took a lot of years of just 'winging it' on male anatomy until I finally told myself I needed to more carefully study the male physique so that I could draw the male form more believably. Anatomy and muscle group reference books have definitely been my friends!

I didn't even think about them having different ear shapes. I'll have to look at their designs again and see if I see what you see. Man, back in high school when I used to draw them, no matter how their heads were turned, I would always draw their ears the same. LOL Like Mickey Mouse. Only one perspective for the ears. I'm sure I still do it even now. Old habits.
And most of the time I can fake my lack of knowledge on male muscle structures because the characters are wearing clothes. Can't fake it as well with the bros. I should totally educate myself like you have had. You make me feel like a lazy artist XD

LOL well, I have like, an 8 gig folder full of screenshots from the entire series I use for reference, so it was something I started noticing after awhile. Vinnie's ears are also the only one's that aren't drawn 'fuzzy'.
LOL I used to do that too when drawing mouse characters of any kind- whether Disney or Bluth style or of my own invention. Drawing them at different angles I found otherwise too hard. I find if I try to think of them like human ears as far as curves and width, it's easier to figure out which angle to approach them at for over the shoulder shots and etc.
It was the Bros that really forced me to study male anatomy closer. With Road Rovers and all others I just winged it in the past and was like 'draw a girl, remove boobs and hips, insta-male!'. With the Bros who run around half-naked it seems, I figured that wasn't going to cut it anymore, so I really forced myself to hit those anatomy books and reference material. I'm actually glad I did, because I was really uncomfortable with drawing men for so long simply because I wasn't very confident in my skills to render them properly.

Yeah, it's always easier to draw woman since we kinda have a good idea how our own muscle structures work. Dudes are different. When I drew the mice back in high school, I totally gave them typical, most likely incorrect abs and I was okay with it. But now, I like giggle like a girl when trying to get in all the chest muscles in. I am like five years old. The more beefy they are, the more I get intimidated. It's not like I'm even drawing their junk or something LOL I should just woman up and do it. Draw dude chests all night long.

Oh I know O_O. Even if the censors required them to tone down their flirting and all the overt sexual innuendos between them for the newer series ( which has been confirmed ), I don't see why they also had to eliminate all the playful humor between the two. Even if you remove the romance part away from the equation of the original series, the characters were still always joined at the hip. Charley always rode with Vinnie ( even in the one episode where she escapes with the bikes and has to leave the Bros behind, she is seen jumping onto Vinnie's bike herself and riding away on it, not Throttle or Modo's ) and she spent the majority of her time with solely him. In episodes like 'I, Greasepit' Throttle and Modo are out taking care of things and it shows Vinnie and Charley just bumming around the garage together, having some drinks. They spent a lot of time pushing each other's buttons and being one another's cheeky foil. So even if the writers were forced to remove all romantic traces of a relationship in the 2006 series, I wish they would have at least retained Vinnie and Charley's playful bantering and their close comraderie.

Exactly agree on all accounts. There are plenty of shows that have appropriate romance shown and besides, with sex being so blatant these days, I'm sure the innuendos can pass and the kids not know it (but that's just my opinion). That's one of the reasons I couldn't get into the 2006 one. It felt like nothing... No hints from the original show other than the return the older villains but it was just hard to watch.

Seriously XD. There were a lot of cartoons I grew up on that the innuendos totally flew over my head until I was older. I still didn't get the 'finger Prince' joke in Animaniacs until I was almost 30 and then I was like- 'oh? Oh...OH!'. Ha ha ha. So if some tasteless jokes can get by me for that many years, I'm sure most children wouldn't be too affected by the more subtle ones XD
Besides, when we're younger, most kids don't sexualize things anyway because they really don't understand all of that yet. When they see relationships in cartoons or films, they either think 'ewwww, cooties' or 'awwwww they're sweethearts!' and that's about it. There might be 1 or 2 dirty minds in the youthful lot, but for the most part, kids aren't focused on that and are more involved in the comedy and action and adventure. Relationships between characters always seemed perfectly natural to me growing up and as something character building. It never intimidated me or made me or any of the other kids feel uncomfortable.
But yeah- that's my biggest complaint about 2006. A lot of the original humor is still there- you can catch it in glimpses and that's when you know Tom and Rick's sense of humor and ideas are shining through. But the rest of the time the characters feel unfamiliar and unlike themselves and it's difficult to ease into that change when you grew up on the original.
